WHY RISE UP OTTAWA?

Over the past year, Jewish students, teachers, and families have experienced an unprecedented increase of hate. The fact that it’s happening in our schools CANNOT BE IGNORED. Jewish children as young as 4 years old are being harassed, threatened, and attacked simply for being Jewish. Children and teachers are hiding their Jewish identity - while being told we are entitled and lucky.

US - the Jewish people, representing less than than 2% Canada’s population.

US - the lucky ones who lost 6,000,000 in the Holocaust while survivors were relentlessly tortured like animals

US - the ones who are consistently breaking records for experiencing the most hate crimes

We are the problem? If in fact we follow our Human Rights Code being that HATE has no place in education...how has antisemitism become so normalized in schools?

Over the past year, hundreds of brave Jewish community members have spoken up. Children are making themselves even bigger targets when begging for help against the hate they’re experiencing, and yet nothing is changing. This is NOT OKAY. For a traumatized Jewish child to be told by professional leaders in the field of education whose primary responsibility is to keep students safe “please be patient, I’m on a learning journey” is shameful.

This has now become a choice. A choice to allow this hateful, inaccurate, segregated bullying to continue. The false narratives being indoctrinated into children and educators about Jews and Israel are appalling!

RISE UP OTTAWA will provide this dire need for education within our Jewish community. You’ll be shocked by the stories, but this is precisely why YOU MUST attend. With fewer Holocaust Survivors than ever before, WE are the next generation. We have a responsibility to uphold…and we are failing. It is your right and your responsibility to be informed. At RISE UP OTTAWA, we will learn and rejoice together to celebrate our Jewish identity because we belong. EVERYWHERE.

…continued

As a teacher who has been on the front lines receiving daily antisemitic reports and attacks for over a year, trust me when I say that this is not about free speech. This is hate speech, with 1 commonality - everyone thinks they’re alone and no one knows what to do. When finally mustering up the courage to speak up, you’re ignored, dismissed, and told what is and isn’t antisemtic. Can you imagine any other race being told what is and isn’t harmful to their identity?

Jewish children are being gheto’ed into “more jewish” schools. When protests filled with hate are allowed on school property during school hours, Jewish children are advised to enter a safe classroom reserved just for them. It’s not just throwing coins anymore - altering the Indigenous Land Acknowledgement to include antiZionist hate or playing “choke the Jew” are more recent chosen favourites.

This isn't about me…and honestly, it’s not only about the children either. What it will be like in 5-10 years when all of these kids grow up, run our cities, our countries, all the while having learned that Jews are the enemy. What will you do? Where will you go? We must insist that Never Again remains a call to action to be vigilant against all forms of hate, ensuring that it’s not just a phrase but a principled cause.

While I understand and genuinely empathize with Jewish parents who have recently chosen to switch their children to the Catholic Board for safety, this is NOT the answer. We know better. We’ve been here before. We must not hide. We must not run away. Human Rights are NOT up for debate. We must come together and RISE UP.

Join us at Rise Up Ottawa on November 6 and be part of the solution. It’s time to unite and celebrate our Jewish pride. It's time to wake up Ottawa because Never Again is RIGHT NOW.

Get your tickets TODAY and let’s make this happen. TOGETHER.
