Meet Mr. Fleming and Mr. Rondeau

Mr. Fleming-

  • Has been teaching at Hoosick Falls CSD for the past 24 years.
  • Graduated from Cortland State with a Bachelors in Physical Education in 1998.
  • Received Masters in Health Education from Sage Graduate School.
  • Coaches Football and Basketball

Mr. Rondeau-

  • Has been teaching at HFCS for 3 years. Previously taught PE at Arlington for 2 years.
  • Graduated from Sage College with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education.
  • Received Master’s in Health Education from Sage Graduate School.
  • Coaches Soccer, Wrestling, and Baseball.

Physical Education Class

  • Full year course (every other day)
  • ½ credit if taken every other day- - - 1 credit if taken everyday
  • Units Include: Flag Football, Speedball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Fitness, Pickleball, Floor Hockey, Softball, Lawn Games
  • Emphasis on skill development, physical fitness, sportsmanship, team work, and self- efficacy
  • Students are required to participate in each activity for each class

PE Course Objectives

  • Physical Education can be defined as "education through the physical".
  • Aims to develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle.
  • Also strives to develop students’ confidence, communication, critical thinking.

NYS Standards:

Standard 1: The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Standard 2: The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

Standard 3: The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Standard 4: The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

Standard 5: The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.

Athletic Development Class

  • Full year course (every other day)
  • ½ credit if taken every other day- - - 1 credit if taken everyday
  • Goals- to develop and increase student awareness of the 5 components of physical fitness- Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, and Body Composition
  • Teach students the 5 Core Lifts- Bench Press, Squat, Hang Clean, Push Press, and Deadlift- while utilizing proper technique to maximize outcome and safety.
  • Enhance sport performance/ physical fitness
  • Teach students the importance of a proper warm up to reduce injury.
  • Educate students on principles of weight training including- - -FITT Principle, Overload Principle, Specificity, Variation, and Reversibility principle.

Things to Know

  • If a student misses a class they need to make that day up by attending another class during their study hall or free time.
  • If a student refuses to participate in class they will receive a zero for the day.
  • If a student is out for a long period of time due to illness or injury a written assignment may be given to make up for missed days.
