SKETCHY IDEAS

  • Ideas are described in visual terms (simple drawings)
  • Sketchy idea = one A4 sheet divided in 3 panels (large post its)
  • Self-explanatory: choose right words
  • Nice and neat (no gold-plating)
  • Give ideas titles
  • Team members do this independently (deliver 1-3)
  • Anonymous

Sketch what?

  • People doing something
  • Touchpoints (mobile, apps, web, email)
  • Close up on mockups of interfaces for design of functionalities
  • Other objects

2. Sketch solutions (ideation)

13

  • Before. User, context and problem. Why s/he interact with the bot? what’s the value that s/he seeking from it?
  • User’s actions. What does the user have to do in order to get that value? Typing something? Speaking? Clicking buttons? Etc.
  • Bot’s actions. what does the bot do in order to deliver that value? what’s behind the scene to make that possible? (e.g.: data, algorithms, your secret sauce, etc.)

3. Decide your solution

3.1 Museum

  • hang all ideas on the wall
  • no presentation, no explanations, no pitches
  • observe all sketches alone, silently
  • add post its with questions and concerns

17 of 20

17

3.2 Speed critique:

  • Gather around a sketch: team members NOW comment and discuss concern and questions and write them down on sticky notes.
  • The creator explains any missing aspect or misunderstandings
  • Allocate the same time on each idea (e.g. 5 mins each)
  • Do not try to come up with a new solution on the spot

3. Decide your solution

18

3.3 Vote the solution(s)

  • Vote the most liked ones (using dot-voting: e.g. 5 dots each team member)
  • Dot-voting will result in a heat map on most appealing ideas
  • Call the CLIENT / BOSS who will listen to these options and gives “supervotes”
  • Most voted will be the foundation of your prototype. Then you have “maybe laters”

3. Decide your solution

3.4 Review and remix

  • You can improve/review/update the idea
  • You can include parts of other ideas
  • Keep the format (A4, 3 panels)

..iterate..
