Pathway to Teaching

SFUSD Pathway to Teaching is a practice-based intern teacher credential program. Pathway teachers earn their preliminary credential while also earning a full-time salary within as little as 15 months.

​

Pathway candidates can earn their preliminary credential in one of the following:

​

• Multiple Subject (TK-5)
• Multiple Subject + Bilingual Spanish Authorization (TK-5)
• Education Specialist - Mild to Moderate Support Needs

Para to Teacher Program

​

The Para to Teacher Program is open to any current SFUSD staff member who wants to earn a credential from in a high-need area:

​

• Science
• Math
• Special Education
• Bilingual Education
• New - Early Ed PK Special Ed Credential

​

Support includes:

• Admission assistance to enter into a partner university credential program
• 20% of spaces for staff who need support to finish a Bachelor's degree
• Tuition assistance to offset the costs to earn a credential
• Professional development to thrive in the role

SF Urban Teacher Residency (SFUTR)

​

Residencies are a unique teacher preparation pathway that provide experiential training to residents by placing them in classrooms with skilled mentor teachers for 1 year via a gradual release model in combination with a resident cohort experience and university aligned coursework to provide a comprehensive model of teaching training.

Residents:

• Earn a preliminary credential and Masters with their universities
• Receive a $20,000 stipend during their residency year
• Receive 3 years of coaching support
• Participate in a cohort learning community of residents across multiple universities
• Receive an early contract and personalized support for job search process
• Commit to teaching in SFUSD for 3 years
