Engage: Read students a story book about bugs. Have class brainstorm/generate a list of bugs of various types. (See list in “Materials” for book options)
1
Introduce: Show sample project video on slide 3. Ask students to notice what is happening in the video (re-watch if needed). Define Sprite. Explain that you will edit and create bug sprites.
2
Model Original Sprite Creation: Show students how to open Sprite Editor and add a blank sprite canvas. Demonstrate how to use the shape, line, select, move, rotate, stamp, cut, fill, and color picker tools to build a bug. (Alternatively, show videos on slide 7 & 8)
4
Model Sprite Editing: Show students how to open Sprite Editor and edit a sprite using
the select, color picker, and fill tools. (Alternatively, show video on slide 6)
3
Code Bug Dance: Remind students how to create Algorithms for each bug using an Event to start the action. Encourage them to put their algorithm in a Loop so the action will repeat.
5
Debrief: What kind of code blocks did you use to make bug movements more realistic? What problems did you have and how did you solve them?

Standards
Algorithms and Programming
Standard 1.AP.2 Break down (deconstruct) algorithms and list the steps needed to solve a problem into a sequence of tasks and sub-tasks.
Standard 1.AP.3 Create programs with sequences (steps) of commands and simple loops (repeated patterns), to express ideas or address a problem
Math
Standard K.G.1 Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
Standard 1.G.2a Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, halfcircles, and quarter-circles) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
