Q8.Campaign Analysis

Which email had a better open rate and why?

Open rate of email 2 is 68.75% and open rate of email 1 and 2 is 42.55% & 22.58% respectively. Hence, the open rate of email 2 (i.e. triggered after the email 1 is opened) is better than other two emails.

Reason for better open rate:

Subject line: Perfect destinations for viral photoshoots

  • The subject line creates a curiosity for a destination.
  • The subject line is clear, transparent, easy to understand and drives attention of user.
  • Subject line is short under 40 to 60 characters which is a best practice. It is also responsive and visible for all devices.

Relevance:

  • This second email has been triggered to those who opened the 1st email (welcome) that symbolizes they were interested in the content or brand. 1 day follow up automation email was set.
  • So, overall segmentation was alligned and the email was delivered to those who were most likely interested in the content of my blog.

Preview text: Don’t miss out scenic beauty in your snaps!

  • I created a fomo telling users not to miss this amazing destination.
  • Expanded on he subject line.
  • Kept preview text crisp & short under 43 characters so that it is responsive & visible for all the devices.

Timing:

  • I set a time range between 8 p.m to 11 p.m for email to trigger. People usually get back from their work in the evening and therefore I assumed this time would be better to get more visibility as people usually free up themselves and spend time on their devices during night.

Other reasons:

  • 100% delivery rate, 0% spam rate, 0 unsubscribers, and 0% bounce rate.

Campaign Analysis

Which of the emails should you optimize? Justify your answer using the metrics you have calculated. Select only one email for this.

I would optimize the Email 3 (i.e. the reminder email for those who haven’t opened the 1st email). These are the potential subscribers and is crucial to interact with them.

Why do I want to optimize this email:

  • Low open rates (out of 31 emails sent, only 7 opened)
  • Less clicks (only 1 user has clicked)
  • Low click rate of 3.23%
  • Low CTR of 14.29%

Overall the performance of Email 3 is drastically low as compared to other emails.

Campaign Analysis

What measures would you take to optimize this email? How do you think this would help improve the open rate?

Subject line:

  • Using personalized subject line creating fomo, curiosity, humour, providing social proof or addressing a pain point.
  • Keeping it short and purpose driven.
  • Starting with action oriented verb like ‘explore’, ‘visit’, etc.
  • Keeping it relevant with the email copy.

Preview text:

  • Expanding on the subject line.
  • Using action keywords like ‘visit’, ‘checkout now’, etc.
  • Teaser of the email copy.

Email body:

  • Using a good image. Images comprehend content more easily then text.
  • It drives attention and also helps in spending user more time.
  • Maintaining proper image to text ratio. Usually 20% to 40% image to text is good practice.
  • Using alt tags in the images. It help users to understand if image is not displayed due to some issue.
  • Using 1st person narration. Focusing more on readers.

Campaign Analysis

What measures would you take to optimize this email? How do you think this would help improve the open rate?

CTA:

  • Action oriented and purpose driven CTAs buttons.
  • Proper button size to catch readers eye.
  • Using color psychology on CTA buttons
  • Creating an urgency like ‘offer ends this week’, etc.
  • Avoiding using more than 1 or 2 CTAs. More CTAs can create confusions resulting no clicks.

Segmentation and timing:

  • Checking the subscriber’s persona and segmenting the users.
  • Analyzing the right time to send email.

Footer:

  • Footer increases trust and credibility. Adding social links and physical address in the footer can access the presence of brand or website.
  • Following the guidelines and providing an option to unsubscribe the emails. This helps in reducing the spam score.

Campaign Analysis

What measures would you take to optimize this email? How do you think this would help improve the open rate?

Talking about second part of the question, Open rate basically depends on certain factors like subject line, preview text, delivery rate, spam score, segmentation, etc.

The points described on subject line and preview text above will help in increasing the open rate. In addition to that,

  • Avoiding excessive punctuation, grammatical mistakes and spam words like free, help, % off, guaranteed, etc. will help in landing the emails in inbox rather than spam folder. Hence helps in increasing the open rate.
  • Avoiding email fatigue will also help increasing open rate.
  • Correcting the email segmentation on the basis of triggers, demographic, geographic, behavioural and psychographic.
  • Good timing is another optimization to increase open rate.
  • Double opt-in helps in preventing hard bounce. Hence increases delivery rate.
  • Checking the reputation of IP address. Bad reputation leads to increase in spam rate.
