This digital, editable Google Slide deck guides students through a structured process for spelling multisyllabic words. It helps students hear syllables, tap out sounds, and apply phonics + morphology rules while giving teachers a flexible template they can customize for any lesson or word list.

How to Use It (Teacher Instructions)

  1. Say the word aloud.� Ask: How many syllables do you hear? Draw or place that many syllable scoops.�
  2. Tap out the sounds in the first syllable.� Students segment phonemes and write the corresponding letter in the scoop.�
  3. Determine the vowel sound.� Ask: Is the vowel short or long?� If long, check: open syllable? magic-e? vowel team?�
  4. Repeat step 2 & 3 for each additional syllable.�
  5. Check for affix rules.� Identify prefixes, suffixes, and any necessary spelling changes (Apply doubling, dropping, changing y to i, etc.)�
  6. Check for spelling rules.� Apply special spelling rules (c/k, -ck, floss, -tch, -dge etc.)�
  7. Blend, read, and check the full word.�

Teacher Tips

  • Use the provided examples to model whole-group first.
  • Then duplicate the blank templates to create your own slides using your weekly pattern words, morphology lists, or intervention targets.
