Trash Scooper

Trash Claw

Trash Tractor

Think Like an Engineer:

Test your initial build by scooping up some LEGO pieces. How can you improve your design?

Think Like a Physicist:

How can you use leverage and gears to your advantage when picking up heavy objects?

CODE IT!

BUILD IT!

Modify It

  • Think about which way to turn the motor in a geared robot.
  • Can you add variables to make the code more user-friendly?
  • The code on the left runs forever. What other kinds of loops can you use?

Code for the Trash Claw

The trash claw waits until it senses trash, grabs the trash and waits a few seconds until the user is ready to release it.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

How much trash can you pick up? Try changing the weight of your trash and see how heavy you can go!

Attach a small gear to the motor.

Attach a stand for the claw.

Attach a larger gear to add more torque to the claw.

Attach the claw to the large gear.

“Gear down” by attaching a small gear on your motor to a large gear for more torque in your claw.
