PTAs

  • PTAs can give you access to school events like open house, back to school nights, and other fun events like ice cream socials, carnivals
  • PTAs can market you through their own communications - email newsletters, social media, websites
  • Parents in Pack who are also PTA volunteers are your secret weapon!

Principals

  • Principals can move mountains - forming a strong relationship with them will open doors
  • Principals can greenlight Scouts representing at flag ceremonies, or Pack visits to classes or lunch
  • Consider the BSA Adopt-a-School program and offer service to your school to help strengthen the relationship
  • Consider the Elbert K Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award to teachers or other educators who have gone above the call of duty to help your Pack

Discussion Questions

  1. How would you rate your unit’s relationship with the school(s) the Scouts in your unit attend?

  1. What do you as a Scouter or as a unit do to build a positive relationship with our local schools?
  2. How could our Packs and Troops partner for outreach into “Scouting deserts”?
