What is a STEM Fair/ Expo?

A STEM fair is an opportunity for you to do an independent science or engineering project (of your choice) following either the scientific method or the engineering design process. Students conduct their research then present their results at a STEM fair.

Scientific Method

The scientific method is a process for experimentation that is used to explore observations and answer questions

Observe

Make observations, what do you want to know about, what do you already know?

Question

The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something that you observe: How, What, When, Who, Which, Why, or Where?

Research

You should conduct background research on your topic to learn as much as you can about it

Hypothesis

A hypothesis is an educated guess about how things work. It is an attempt to answer your question with an explanation that can be tested.

Experiment

Design and perform an experiment to test the hypothesis.

Conclusion and Report

Report the outcomes, what happened was your hypothesis correct?

Plan

How are you going to fix the problem? What design will you use?

Create

Actually build the prototype.

Test

Does your item work? Do you need to make improvements

Improve and Share

If needed improve and then share your results.
