Track Day Timeline:

8:00am Arrive at track

8:15am Sign in and Scrutineering

8:45am Drivers Briefing

8:50am Marshals head out to stations

9:00am Sighting Laps

9:10am First group on track

12:45pm Chequered Flag, final session ends

12:50pm Collect marshals from stations

12:55pm Ensure track and pits are left clean and tidy

Ruapuna Track Circuit:

8:00am Arrive at track

When arriving at the track park in one of the empty pit bays labeled as Pit Lane Garages on the map

8:15am Sign in and Scrutineering

Head to the end of the pit bays to sign in and collect gear and your scrutineering sheet

A scrutineer will come over to your car so make sure to stay with it until then

Once your car is scrutineered return your sheet to the sign in table

8:45am Drivers Briefing

In the same location there will be a compulsory drivers briefing to go over all the rules of the day

9:00am Marshals head out to stations

There will be three marshal stations in use (red stars) as well as the start/finish tower. Vehicles are not allowed on track until the marshals are set up.

9:05am Sighting Laps

​

There will be a single file sighting lap for all vehicles

This lap has a maximum speed of 80km/h

This is the only time when passengers are allowed and helmets/overalls are not required

​

9:15am First group on track

​

Line up single file in the pit lane and wait for the signal from the marshal in the tower before entering the track (either a green flag or a thumbs up)

When taking off from the pit lane do not skid the wheels

Each group will get 15 minute sessions

12:45pm Chequered Flag, final session ends

Return to pit lane, track time is over for the day

Car Safety

No hybrids, electric, or open-wheeled vehicles are allowed on the track

All vehicles must have:

• a minimum 1kg, twin strap, fire extinguisher mounted securely in reach of the driver

For hand-held extinguishers, a metal retaining system, incorporating a minimum of two(2) quick-release metal straps, secured to the structure of the vehicle by a minimum of two(2) self locking ISO 8.8 M6 bolts with panel washers is required. All hand-held extinguishers shall be positioned within easy reach of the occupant/s while in their normally seated position.

All vehicles must have:

• battery secured with the positive battery terminal covered

All vehicles must have:

• suitable tyres with adequate tread (no full slicks)
• adequate brake pads
• tow points
• cabin clear of loose items

All vehicles must(not) have:

• check your vehicle for leaks including:
• Oil
• Coolant
• Fuel
• Brake fluid

All vehicles must have:

• An exhaust quieter than 90dB

All vehicles must have: Summary

• a minimum 1kg, twin strap, fire extinguisher mounted securely in reach of the driver

• cabin clear of loose items
• battery secure with positive battery terminal covered
• check your vehicle for leaks (oil, coolant, fuel, brake fluid)
• Vehicle exhaust must be quieter than 90dB

Please Note:

Scrutineers have the right to inspect your vehicle and reject it if they deem it to be unsafe.

Open Top Vehicles:

This includes both soft top and hard top vehicles.

Open Top Vehicles Must Have:

A roll bar fitted that has at least 5 mm of clearance from the top of the drivers helmet when seated to the line between the top of the roll bar and solid structure of the car, eg. top of suspension strut. (Windscreens can and will fold, they are not considered a solid structure)

​

Non-homologated roll bar is permitted provided it is of suitable construction and the vehicle has a current WOF and registration

​

If the vehicle is not road registered the roll bar must be homologated by Motorsport NZ

Targa Top Vehicles:

Vehicles with Targa Tops are permitted without a roll cage but the removable tops must remain fitted at all times.

Flags

• It’s GO time!

​

• Track is clear and ready for vehicles

Green Flag

• Hazard ahead

​

• Slow down and prepare to stop

Be cautious as there could be oil, water, debris or a number of other hazards

​

• Once marshals stop waving the flag continue under green flag conditions

Yellow Flag

• Dangerous situation on Track which typically requires a recovery vehicle

​

• Put your hazard lights on, slow down and return to pits for further instructions from marshals

Red Flag

You have been driving in an unsafe manner

​

or

​

Your car has visible problems (fire, smoke, falling trim)

​

RETURN TO THE PITS THIS LAP

Black Flag

• End of session

​

• Once you see this flag waved continue around the track and end your lap by coming into the pits

Chequered Flag

Driver Etiquette:

• Obey the marshalls and their flags
• If they are waving flags there is always a reason

​

Flags are used to keep you safe - If you ignore the flags you will be asked to leave the event.

Personal Safety Equipment:

All drivers need to wear a certified helmet and 100% cotton overalls or a fire proof layer (such as a race suit)

Motosoc has numerous helmets, overalls, and a few race suits that our members are able to borrow these can be checked out at sign in at the start of the day and must be returned at the end of your last session

Driver Etiquette:

• Start slow (especially if you haven’t been on track before) and warm the car, brakes and tyres up before steadily increasing your pace (within your limits)

​

Driver Etiquette:

• Hold your line on the straights (be predictable). Use your indicators before moving across if you want let someone behind

​

Driver Etiquette:

• Passing is strictly on the straights, this means that there’s no passing in the corners.

​

Driver Etiquette:

• This is not a drift day!!! Anyone seen attempting to drift will be black flagged and asked to leave the track day. More importantly you will run out of talant. See below;

Driver Etiquette:

• Know your own and your car’s limits. This is a fun/training day, make sure to pay attention if your getting brake fade or feeling fatigued.

​

Driver Etiquette Summary:

Obey the marshalls and their flags, if they are waving flags there is always a reason. Flags are used to keep you safe - repeatedly ignoring the flags is not okay.

• Passengers are allowed in the sighting lap and otherwise only in cars with legitimate roll protection (MSNZ Approved)

Other Points:

• Track-oriented cars are allowed (no open wheelers) but will be subjected to the same scrutineering as everyone else

We cannot run our trackdays without the help of marshals.

Marshal Stations are up close to the action for great views and photo opportunities!

Want to take Pictures?

If you want to snap some action shots there are some ground rules:

​

Photography Rules:

Photographers must not interfere with marshall duties

You must not leave the towers while there are cars on track

​

There are approved areas for photographers - primarily on the pitwall and at the three marshall stands.

If you are a marshall with a camera, always make sure one other marshall is covering you when taking photos

​

Photography Rules:

You are not allowed on the track itself. Other areas require approval from the trackday rep.

​

Use common sense! There is very little distance between you and the track

​

Photography Tips and Tricks:

What do you need for photography?

Any camera of any kind and a good attitude

• Yes, your phone is the perfect tool (especially for videos)
• You do NOT need a professional setup to take good photos
• Motosoc does NOT judge anyone for bringing “cheap” or “old” equipment

With a bit of practice and online tutorials, anyone can take photos

• More photos = good :)

But if you have already have a DSLR, Mirrorless, etc., then here are some tips:

• 70-200 focal length is sufficient for all photo spots
• Shutter priority is your friend (generally 1/800 or faster)
• Continuous autofocus 24/7

Everyone is willing to help you troubleshoot, give tips, etc.
