Angor Wat Stops Elephant Rides

Riding an elephant may sound found and special and many people will join an elephant-riding for fun or watch elephant show when they travel to Southeast Asia. However, few people understand it will hurt these gentle animals a lot. In 2016, an elephant died at Angor Wat, Cambodia’s most famous tourist spot. An Asian elephant, Sambo, died, because of extreme heat and the stress of carrying tourists.

After this, animal rights groups put stress on Cambodia to stop elephant rides. Over 185,000 people support to stop the practice. Now people cannot ride elephants at Hindu temple or its park.

The former work elephants from Angkor Wat will be moved to a forest where they are born to be and won’t be made to do labor. Fewer than 50, 000 Asian elephants currently live in the wild. At least these few will now live safe lives.
