Students in the 21st Century need access to information. The course curriculum needs to be available to the students outside of the classroom. If students are absent, need reteaching, need review, need to be challenged... you should make your content available online!

Start a Blog, Wiki, or Website

A blog, wiki, or website is a great opportunity to set up a "one-stop shopping" place for all of the material for for your class. You can link to websites, embed videos, and embed documents and presentations. In addition, it is also a great way to increase parent communication and involvement.

Post Presentations and Upload Documents

If you create "PowerPoint" presentations to teach your content, think about posting them online for your students to access. You can also upload documents such as student examples, assessment rubrics, notes, class discussions, etc. These presentations can then be embedded or linked on a blog, wiki, or website.

Set Up A Course Management Program

A course management program is something that a teacher can use to set up an online classroom. Teachers and students can share files, complete assignments, engage in discussion boards or chats, etc. Some school districts may have a district wide program such as Moodle or Sakai. If not, try using Edmodo!

Students need access to resources and tools on the web, but they don't necessarily know how to find the reliable resources or have the time to search for the perfect one. This is where the 21st century teacher comes into play... the teacher can set up a site where students can find links to all of the resources that they need.

Social Bookmarking Tools:

Social Bookmarking tools allow you to create an account and post bookmarks/favorites to different websites. You can categorize the links with tags. You can create lists of different links, and you can create a group to collaborate when sharing.

There are a lot of different websites that can help you create a "home base" for links for your classroom. Portaportal is easy to set up and manage. Symbaloo is image based were the links are icons - great for primary.
