Making an Appointment With Your Counselor

• In front office you will find a computer towards the right, you fill out the Google form to request an appointment or request to see us on the HMBHS website.
• If it’s been more than 2 days and you haven’t received a call-slip, please email your counselor.

Attendance

• Excused absence
• Sick, medical appointment, dental appointment, optometric appointment
• Personal reasons which cannot be avoided
• Parents must clear attendance by calling the school
• Unexcused absence
• Skipping class, vacation trips during school, car/traffic problems
• Consequences for absences (per semester, per class)
• 1, 2, and 3 absences parents are notified. Detention.
• More than 3 absences = Truancy

Graduation Requirements Part 1

• 230 Credits

• American Government/Economics: 10 credits

• Electives: 70 credits = 7 classes

• English: 40 Credits

• Fine Art/Foreign Language: 10 credits

• Life Science (Biology or Agri-Bio): 10 credits

Graduation Requirements Part 2

• Math: 30 credits
• PE: 20 credits (9th & 10th)
• Physical Science (Earth Sci/Chem/Physics or Agri-Chem/Adv Agri): 10 credits
• State required social studies (Freshman Life Skills/Ethnic Studies): 10 credits
• US History: 10 credits
• World History: 10 credits

A-G requirements - (UC/CSU Requirements)

• A: History – 2 Years (1 year World History and 1 year US History or 1 semester of Government)
• B: English – 4 years
• C: Math – 3 years (Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II)
• D: Science – 2 years (1 year of life science and 1 year of physical science)
• E: Language other than English – 2 years the same language (we offer Spanish and French)
• F: Visual/Performing Arts: 1 year
• G: College-Preparatory Elective: 1 year

Community Service Hours

• Total needed for graduation: 35

Different types of 4 year colleges

• California State University (East Bay, San Jose, Fullerton, etc.)
• University of California (Berkeley, Irvine, Los Angeles, etc)
• Independent Private Universities (Stanford University, Santa Clara University, University of Southern California)
• GPA Requirements: CSU: 2.0/ UC: 3.0 ***C- or higher in all classes

Community College

• 2 year College (College of San Mateo, Cañada College, Skyline College, etc.)
• 116 Colleges
• Associates degree
• Transfer to 4 year CSU or UC
• Benefits of going to a community college:
• Lower tuition and fees
• Lower living cost for local Community Colleges
• Flexibility in choosing major
• More classes available during evenings and night

Trade or Vocational Schools

• Training towards a specific occupation
• Ex) Carrington College in San Jose/San Leandro: Medical, dental, criminal justice, pharmacy technology
• Popular trade schools:
• UTI (Universal Technical Institute) - Automotive/Diesel/NASCAR tech
• Institute for Business & Tech (Santa Clara)
• Institute of Technology
• Visit trade-schools.net if you have specific potential career in mind
• Vocational: Community Colleges have vocational programs

Standardized testing: SAT and ACT

• Most colleges will take both
• PSAT/NMSQT- for 10th & 11th grades, Oct. 17th on campus
• Register online through Total Registration and the exam is $35
• Payment must be received by September 27^th
