  • A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is a study where people are placed randomly from the same eligible population into two groups: one receives the program (treatment group), and the other doesn’t (control group).
  • RCTs are considered the gold standard in research design due to their ability to establish cause-and-effect relationships.

  • RCT was a stand-alone exercise with the objective of measuring the change in vaccine coverage after the introduction of the cash incentives.
  • RCT was conducted by an independent organization, IDInsight, and it allowed us to measure the impact of the intervention on BCG, Penta 1, and Measles 1 coverage, without any external influences prior to scaling up the program.
  • The duration for RCT was July 2017 → February 2020.

In areas where NI-ABAE is considering expanding to:

  • Inform expansion decisions
  • Capture a baseline of RI coverage for comparison after NI-ABAE starts operations

In areas where NI-ABAE operates to:

  • Monitor the reach of the CCTs for RI Program
  • Identify areas that may need additional support
  • Inform operational decision making

  • Measure community attitudes toward and knowledge about immunizations

COMPONENTS

  • ‘Compact segment sampling’ to select households for surveying
  • 2 part household survey:A) Eligibility screening;B) Routine immunization survey

#4

What is the caregiver-reported coverage of the following routine childhood immunizations among 6-12 month olds at the first follow-up in the state-LGA cohort: BCG, any Pentavalent (Penta) vaccine, Measles 1 vaccine, and full vaccination (loose)?

What is the difference in the caregiver-reported coverage of the following routine childhood immunizations among 6-12 month olds between baseline and 12 months follow-up in the state-LGA cohort: BCG, any Penta vaccine, Measles 1 vaccine, and full vaccination?

At the first follow-up in the state-LGA cohort, what percentage of 6-12 month olds have BCG scars?

What is the difference in the percentage of 6-12 month olds in the state-LGA cohort that have BCG scars between baseline and follow-up?

11

* ”Full vaccination (loose)” refers to a child who has received BCG, at least one Penta vaccine dose, and Measles 1 vaccine.

#1

What is the caregiver-reported coverage of the following routine childhood immunizations among 6-12 month olds at the first follow-up in the state-LGA cohort: BCG, Penta 1 vaccine, Penta 2 vaccine, Penta 3 vaccine, and Measles 1 (strict)?

At the first follow-up in the state-LGA cohort, what are caregivers’ motivations to (not) seek vaccination for their infants?

12

* ”Full vaccination (strict)” refers to a child who has received BCG, all three Penta doses, and Measles 1 vaccine.
