The construction industry is one of the UK’s most important sectors. In 2018 it employed, directly or indirectly, around 2.4 million people and accounted for £117 billion of the value to the UK economy. The range of jobs available is large, covering traditional craft trades, large civil engineering infrastructure projects, housebuilding, design and consultancy, and the professions such as architecture, management and surveying Study of this sector at Key Stage 4 will complement GCSE study through providing an opportunity for practical application alongside conceptual study. There are also strong opportunities for post-16 progression in this vital sector.

GCSE
GCSE Design and Technology will prepare students to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world. Students will gain awareness and learn from wider influences on Design and Technology including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors. Students will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing and making and apply technical and practical expertise.
The Product Design GCSE allows students to study core technical and designing and making principles, including a broad range of design processes, materials techniques and equipment. They will also have the opportunity to study specialist technical principles in greater depth.

Course Aims
In this Art GCSE, you'll develop your creativity and skills using various materials like pencil, charcoal, paint, sculpture, photography, and digital art. You'll explore different artists and art movements for inspiration, helping you discover new ideas and styles for your own work.
What You’ll Need:
A real interest in Art and Design, plus the time and effort to complete your projects, coursework must be done outside of lessons too. You’ll also need to link what you learn in other subjects to understand the work of your chosen artists.

Technology is constantly evolving and Computer Science equips all students with the tools and understanding to navigate technological change.
In 2014 the government switched ICT to a new Computing curriculum that goes way beyond machines and software and focuses on the ideas and principles of computers.
The GCSE will give students the opportunity to learn everything from the inner workings of a computer system through to the language humans use to operate computers which in turn instruct machines.

ICT usage is becoming increasingly widespread in day-to-day life, as people become progressively dependent on their digital devices.
In 2018, Ofcom reported that 78% of UK adults owned a smartphone and 64% of adults described the internet as ‘an essential part of their life’.
In the workplace, ICT is also vital for the smooth running of many everyday tasks as well as enabling organisations to operate in a more efficient manner.
There are a number of key skills that employers look for which centre around having an understanding of, and the practical ability to use, a range of computer programmes, software and other applications.
