students must have at least

The FHSP provides flexibility for high school students to pursue either higher education or a career.

A single graduation plan, the Foundation High School Program (FHSP) will give students the opportunity to build on the FHSP by earning Endorsements, Performance Acknowledgements, and a Distinguished Level of Achievement.

Students will need to declare their preferred endorsement areas, in writing, during their 8th grade year. Students will be able to change their endorsement at any time.

  • RISD offers all 5 Endorsements on each high school campus
  • Students may earn multiple Endorsements
  • Students entering 9th grade (for the first time) in 2014 and thereafter must indicate their endorsement area in writing
  • Students may choose at any time to change their endorsement area and parents must be notified
  • Students may graduate without an Endorsement if after the student’s sophomore year a parent or guardian files written permission

RISD DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT

  • A student may earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement by successfully completing:
    • Requirements for RISD FHSP

    • Total of four credits in science
  • DLA allows for consideration in the top 10% for automatic admission to a Texas institution of higher education

  • Available to eligible students (qualifying test scores)

  • Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2015-16, dual credit courses will carry 5 quality points upon successful completion (70 or higher) and will be calculated in formal rank and GPA. Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2018-19, dual credit courses will carry 10 quality points upon successful completion.

  • Courses offered on LHHS Campus:
      • Zero hour US Gov, Economics & English 4
      • Dual Credit English 3 & 4, US History, US Gov & Economics (during the day)

  • Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2015-16, dual enrollment courses will carry 5 quality points upon successful completion (70 or higher) and will be calculated in formal rank and GPA. Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2018-19, dual enrollment courses will carry 10 quality points upon successful completion.
  • Courses are taught by a LHHS teacher and a university instructor.
  • Students will receive two separate grades, one for the college grade and one for the high school grade.
  • Courses offered:
    • English 4, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physics 2, Geoscience, Computer Science, US History and Arts & Entertainment Technology

AS YOU HELP YOUR STUDENT CHOOSE CLASSES

Keep in mind:

  • AP/Pre-AP/Honors Classes
    • Students may only drop the class at the end of the 3rd week of the 1st Quarter or at the end of the 1st semester.
    • Quality points are given at semester for passing grades in AP/Pre-AP/Honors classes.
  • Electives
    • There are no elective changes, so choose wisely.

  • These updates will occur with a Google Form

  • In February, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will receive a Google Classroom code for his or her grade level.
  • In that Google Classroom, the counselors will post helpful documents like the Chart Your Course handbook, course handouts, and a course card with all available course selections.
  • Most importantly, there will be a link to a Google Form to actually select courses for next year!
