What is the “Annual Education Report”?

The Annual Education Report (AER) is a report designed to meet federal requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for reporting on performance on the most recently completed school year to parents and communities. The 2024-2025 AERs are based on data from the 2023- 2024 school year.

Who must have an AER?

All local educational agencies (LEAs), including public districts, public school academies (PSAs), and intermediate school districts (ISDs) or regional education service agencies (RESAs) are required to report their 2023-2024 performance. If used as designed, this is how Michigan schools and Local Education Agencies will meet the requirement of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and State law, Act 451, P.A. 1976 (and P.A. 25).

Cover Letters

Use the “Cover Letters” tab to locate the templates for posting on your local district website

IMPORTANT NOTES: COVER LETTERS

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The COVER LETTERS Tab is viewable by secure login only. Contact your ISD Accountability Administrator with questions.
  • Cover Letter templates are provided in multiple languages (English, Spanish, Arabic).
  • The templates are samples and must be updated with local district information.
    • Check your dates, as the current AER (2024-2025) reflects the previous year's data (2023-202R).
  • For “Identification Status” (e.g. ATS, TSI, CSI), schools have the identification status they had at last accountability identification cycle (2021-2022). TSI schools are under district determinations so a district can release a TSI from identification status.
  • TSI, CSI, and ATS schools must state identify on Cover Letters.
