Part-time Insurance, briefly (33.2)

  • One of three community colleges in OR providing insurance benefits to part-time faculty; status quo language provides $0 monthly contribution for employee only
  • Only community college providing insurance benefits to family members beyond part-time faculty member
  • Become eligible after 15 credits over 4 terms and scheduled for .2 FTE OR 5 credits or .33 FTE in one term and scheduled for 5 credits next term
  • Maintain eligibility at .2 FTE per term OR skip a term with 1.2 term FTE for two consecutive terms OR skip a term with 1.2 term FTE for three consecutive terms with summer limited to .5 FTE

Section 125 (33.5)

  • Tax free expense reimbursement for medical or dependent care (13 and under)
  • If eligible for insurance, eligible for Section 125
  • Minimum Employee Contribution: $240 / year for medical; $0 for dependent care
  • Maximum Employee Contribution: $2650 for medical; $5000 if single or married filing jointly and $2500 if married filing separately for dep. care
  • College contributions:
    • Employee only $300
    • Employee + Spouse/Partner or Employee +Children: $500

Part-time Faculty Hourly Rates

  • See salary schedules in Article 25
  • Rates listed are hourly rates paid for in-service, meetings, etc.
  • Hourly rates for regular teaching assignments are higher (approx. 17.6% higher)
  • To calculate: Find your hourly rate from the schedule and multiply by 40 and divide by 34
  • Example: $30.00 x 40 / 34 = $35.29 / hour
  • To calculate number of hours per week of paid time, multiply FTE x 34
  • Example: .33 FTE x 34 = 11.22 hours per week for 11 weeks

In-Service Hours (9.2.2)

  • For faculty teaching in Fall: sixteen hours
  • For faculty teaching in Spring: additional eight hours
  • Uses:
    • Fall In-service
    • Spring Conference
    • Workshops or meetings on campus
    • Attend and record on timesheet

College Committee Work

  • Unused in-service hours
  • If scheduled by college department or division manager for in-service activities that are not part of college-wide functions, must be paid regular hourly rate (9.2.2.3)
  • Right to attend department/ discipline program meetings (except confidential such as search committees) (32.5.1)
  • Other opportunities that offer funding for PT faculty participation (Assessment Team, etc.)
