Twitter is an exchange of quick frequent messages (“microblogging”)

  • Limits user to 140 characters

Users can:

  • Post content
  • Retweet
  • Follow others
  • “Like” other people’s content
  • Use #hashtags
  • Search for users, hashtags and content

Twitter Glossary

@ = is used to call out usernames (e.g. @Catlin_Tucker)

@username = this is your name on Twitter

  • You can use a variation of your actual name or a nickname

# = hashtag–Click on a # and you’ll see all other Tweets containing this word

bio = 160 character personal description that introduces you others on Twitter

block = allows user to block accounts so they are unable to follow you or add you to lists and you will not see notification from them.

DM = direct messages from people you follow

Follow = means you’re connected and will see all of the tweets that user posts

Creating a Profile

Add a photo that is professional or an image the represents your interests.

Add a banner image that is visually pleasing or represents your interests.

I’d recommend your first name & last initial.

160 character bio–quick & professional intro.

Link to your passion blog if you are proud of it.

Visual content is x40 times more likely to be shared on social media.

Include an image whenever possible in your Tweets.
