Caroline Jariwala

“Caroline Jariwala is an ethical mosaic artist using chipped, rejected, thrown away and second hand crockery and cheap tiles, ordinarily destined for landfill. By using these materials, I give a new lease of life and create a much desired object of beauty.”

What to remember:

  • Your clay will be going on a flat surface, so it needs a flat back.

  • Make sure to slip and score every piece of clay that you are attaching

  • People will be walking by this mosaic, so make sure your sculptural pieces are not too long or they will break off!

  • If your piece is too thin, it will get covered in grout and become hidden. Make sure it has a thick base!

  • Don’t create a hollow shape, it could explode in the kiln during the firing process. If you do, make sure there are air holes to prevent yours and everyone else’s from getting ruined.
