Multi-Tiered System of Supports- MTSS

Parent/Guardian Referral Form-

Overview of MTSS Grant (Multi-Tiered System of Supports):

MTSS is a 3-year grant that supports a cohesive framework used to align resources and initiatives in order to meet the academic and behavioral needs of ALL students. It is a method of organization which ensures optimal educational outcomes for students. It aligns the entire system of supports, encompassing RtI (Response to Intervention) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports), and ensures effective team-based problem solving that is data informed and evidenced-based.

CCSD’s model for MTSS consists of six essential components:

  • Shared Leadership
  • Family, School, & Community Partnerships
  • Data-Based Problem Solving and Decision Making
  • Layered Continuum of Supports (Tier I, Tier II, Tier III)
  • Evidence-Based Instruction, Intervention, & Assessment
  • Universal Screening & Progress Monitoring
  • Consistent School-Wide Expectations

This systemic approach supports struggling learners, as well as advanced learners, through the selection of evidenced-based interventions in response to both academic and behavioral needs. The system includes ongoing progress monitoring of the effectiveness of instruction to ensure that ALL students graduate from high school ready for career or college.

If you have any questions, please contact Fritsch Elementary at 775-283-1400 and ask for the Vice Principal. Thank you!

Restorative Practices

Nevada State Law- NRS 392.4644 and part of the School Safety Bill, Senate Bill 89 and Assembly Bill 168

  • Definition: Restorative Practices is an alternative to exclusionary discipline practices which removed students from the academic environment; instead, restorative justice seeks to repair the harm done when a standard of conduct is violated. It proactively builds community to prevent problems from arising and use dialogue, not just punishment, when problems do occur.
  • “Restorative justice means nonpunitive intervention and support provided by the school to a pupil to improve the behavior of the pupil and remedy any harm caused by the pupil.”
  • Please visit the NDE Restorative Practices Webpage for more information.
    • “Discipline and Restorative Practices.” Discipline and Restorative Practices, Nevada Department of Education , 2019, https://doe.nv.gov/SafeRespectfulLearning/Discipline_and_Restorative_Practices/.
  • R/P provides a way for schools to strengthen community, build relationships among students and between students and staff, and increase the safety and productivity of the learning environment.
    • Improve school classroom climates by focusing on community, relationships, and responsibility
    • Promote social and emotional skill development by teaching students self-awareness, empathy, communication skills, responsible decision making, relationship building, and conflict resolution
    • Decrease disciplinary issues and disruptions; and serve as an alternative to harmful exclusionary practices such as suspension and expulsion.
    • Promote student engagement

R/P Benefits and Interventions

Benefits-

    • Helps create a respectful classroom environment
    • Helps develop rapport with students
    • Helps to manage conflicts
    • Helps to establish routines and expectations for positive student behavior

Interventions-

  • Restorative Circles
  • Conflict mediation with Restorative questions: the mediator will help the parties acknowledge injustices and wrongs, work to make things right for all sides, and focus on a future without a reoccurrence of the dispute. Rebuilding trust is a paramount objective. Restorative mediation goes beyond just settling a case or resolving a dispute. A successful restorative mediation will reconcile the interests of the parties and will reconcile any underlying injustices.
