UIC AI History��Artificial neural networks were invented at UIC by a Department of Psychiatry faculty member.  Warren S. McCulloch was a UIC professor of psychiatry from 1941-51.  In 1943 Warren S. McCulloch and Walter Pitts co-authored the first paper on artificial neural networks.��A logical calculus of the ideas immanent in nervous activity�WS McCulloch, W Pitts - The bulletin of mathematical biophysics, 1943 - Springer�Because of the “all-or-none” character of nervous activity, neural events and the relations �among them can be treated by means of propositional logic.
