Phase 11

Our Goal

Our main goal is to alleviate human suffering through garden expansion in Haiti. We will do this by providing and expand community gardens in Cité Soleil for those who are impoverished. The mechanism for this aid would be sending money to an existing organisation called SAKALA and educating citizens on how to create and tend to a garden.

The Plan

Provide funding and expansion mechanisms to SAKALA community gardens in Cite Soleil to expand the original garden. - $10,000

Create 100 new raised garden beds in other underprivileged areas in Cite Soleil for residents who face adversity with SAKALA- $17,100

SAKALA

Sakala is a community youth center located in Cite Soleil.

WHAT IS SAKALA?

WHY WE CHOSE SAKALA

WHAT DO THEY DO?

Sakala provides education to the youth, fresh food and hosts various community events among other things.

We want to establish a way to grow and have a self sustaining farm that was located in the poorest city in Haiti and Sakala aligned with what we wanted perfectly.

Collaborations

  1. Rotary Clubs
    1. Our project would open collaboration with other rotary organizations across the globe. We would ask rotary to dedicate volunteers and donations to our project. Rotary would also help us with raffles.
  2. SAKALA
    • Our primary donation to SAKALA is to help them expand the existing garden by one acre and fund any necessary expenses to maintain the garden. The second portion of this collaboration would be building garden beds all over the city. Due to Haiti being ridden by gang violence our main method of aid will be in the form of monetary donations rather than sending our own volunteers. The goal of this collaboration is to provide 100 garden beds throughout the city.
  3. High Schools
    • We would partner with local schools to market raffles and fundraisers that we have outlined in our budget.

The initial task is to ask Sakala for permission to establish an expansion project.

Our plan would make use of both time and money: Time to educate the people of Haiti on gardening skills and money for the cost of supplies.

For the “building” aspect of our project we would need gardening supplies to upkeep the gardens. We would also need tools and wood to create the garden beds.

We would set up online meetings with volunteers in Haiti to establish the plan.

Marketing and Funding Plan

Social Media Ads for GoFundMe

T-Shirt Sales

Tiktok Campaign - to market the gofundme page. The campaign would be displaying the situation and telling the story of people in Haiti and asking for support. Included in Budget

Goal: $15,000

Reason: Everybody uses social media and a campaign would provide large outreach on our charity project.

On-demand T-Shirt sales: $30 per shirt - $10 to make each shirt = $20 profit each

Goal: 500 T-shirts sold = $10,000

Reason: Guaranteed profit for every sale - no upfront cost necessary, and who doesn't like a good t-shirt!

Goal: 3 raffles - $7,200

Reason: Raffles historically do well in schools with children who want prizes.

Cookie dough fundraisers - Each box sells for $25 and produces $15 profit - 450 boxes sold through rotary and schools.

Goal: $6,750

Reason: People like cookie dough. Girl Scout cookie fundraisers have historically provided good results.
