Our Mission

Our mission is to promote the physical, social, and emotional wellness of the student body by working actively with our teachers, guidance counselors, and student-run organizations within Stuyvesant.

Ms. Guthrie’s Meditation Session

As a NYC School Counselor, Faculty Advisor Undine Guthrie has 19+ years of experience in teaching and counseling. With her certification as a Yoga Instructor, she hosts meditation sessions to instruct students in proper breathing for relaxation while also introducing yoga poses for stretching.

Cafeteria Beautification Murals Project

During Mid-Winter Break, Wellness Council members worked on painting the pillars in the cafeteria with figures evoking healthy activities.

Smoke Out and Vape PSA

In collaboration with Ms. Garber’s health class, members of The Stuyvesant Wellness Council talked about the dangers of vaping.

Freshman Push-ins

The Stuyvesant Wellness Council members collaborated with guidance counselors during the Freshman Push-ins, offering advice in topics of time management, self-care, and managing extracurriculars.

Collaboration with Other Clubs

The Wellness Council recently participated with other Stuy Unity clubs in the 2020 Respect for All Week with Talk Circles About Race forums.

The Stuyvesant Wellness Council has a Youtube channel where we periodically post videos such as healthy recipes. Check them out!

Social Media

The Wellness Council consistently uses Facebook and Instagram to spread awareness about healthy choices and to post uplifting music.

Talk Circles About Race - StuyUNITY Initiative

Discussions include administrators, staff, and students to create an inclusive environment where all opinions/thoughts/anecdotes are shared following topics:

  • Casual Racism
  • Use of slur words
  • Free speech
  • Anti Semitism and Jewish Identity
  • Fairness and Equity for people of color (POC) in education
  • Islamophobia and myths about Islam
