In order to ensure the safety of our students, families and staff, PSA has chosen to start the school year in our Distance Learning Model.

This presentation and powerpoint review the details & expectations for that learning plan.

PSA will provide all K-2 students with iPads & all 3-5 students with Chromebooks to participate in distance learning.

K-2 students will use the program SeeSaw to attend Morning Meeting for attendance check-in, watch the instructional videos from their teachers, complete their work & turn it in to their teachers.

3-5 students will use Google Classroom to attend Morning Meeting for attendance check-in, watch the instructional videos from their teachers, complete their work & turn it in to their teachers.

Expectations for Students

  • Students must log on to Morning Meeting each day at 8:00 using the link posted by the teacher in SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5).

  • This is a mandatory check-in; attendance will be taken at Morning Meeting.

  • After morning meeting, students watch the videos the teacher recorded with the lessons for the day in SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5)

  • Students MUST watch the video lessons in order to complete their Must Do/Can Do work for the day

Expectations for Students

  • The lesson videos will be posted by 8:00 in the morning so students can get started on their work right after Morning Meeting.

  • 8:30-2:00 is students’ time to watch the lesson videos and work on their learning activities or check in with their teachers during the assigned online help sessions

  • Students complete all of the assignments the teacher assigned in SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5) and on the weekly assignment calendar (the Must DO/Can Do sheet)

Expectations for Students

  • After 2:00, students log on to their teacher’s hangout in SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5) to ask any questions they have or to get help with their work

  • Turn in all of their completed work at the end each day using SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5)

  • Students should use Wednesday to catch up on any missing work for that week or get a jump start on Thursday & Friday assignments

  • No new assignments will be posted on Wednesdays.

Expectations for Families

  • Be sure your scholar joins Morning Meeting each day at 8:00 using the link their teacher posted in SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5)

  • Your scholar’s attendance will be taken at MM each day

  • Be sure your scholar watches the videos their teacher recorded with the lessons for the day in SeeSaw (K-2) or in Google Classroom (3-5).

Expectations for Families

  • Be sure your scholar completes all of the assignments their teacher assigned in SeeSaw, Google Classroom and on the Must DO/Can Do sheet each day

  • Contact your scholar’s teacher if you have any questions, need clarification about an assignment, or want to check your scholar’s progress

  • Check your scholar’s grade in Infinite Campus at least once a week

So how will your scholar know what they are learning and what work they need to do when we are learning at home?

Each week your student will get an weekly assignment calendar from your teacher. It’s a checklist of assignments you MUST DO and assignments that you CAN DO when you are learning in school and learning at home.

Each day students are responsible for completing the MUST DO assignments listed for that day.

When your student finishes the Must Do, they can work on the Can Do for additional practice

What happens if your student can’t get all thier work done or fall behind on Monday & Tuesday?

Missing Work

Any late or missing work from the week on the Must Do/Can Do Sheet or posted in Google Classroom needs to be turned in by the end of the day each Friday to receive credit before the next week’s Must Do/Can sheet is sent out.

Details & Expectations

These Scholar & Family expectations will be included in the Elementary Grading Policy.

The grading policy will be the same as last year, and will be mailed home the 1st week of school.

Now that we are in a full distance learning model, teachers are expected to provide online learning support between 8:30-12:30.

To help students get into the routine of attending tutoring & support sessions, we will be following a uniform schedule

Teachers will post the Google Meets link to their tutoring sessions in your student’s SeeSaw Classroom or Google Classroom

Teachers may also assign students that need extra help to check in during these times for reteaching

EL Teachers & Reading Specialists will also be holding sessions for the students they work with; those mandatory small group sessions will be added to the schedule once testing is complete

    • 9:30-10:30 Online Tutoring & Support
    • 11:30-12:30 Online Tutoring & Support
    • If classroom teachers, EL teachers, reading specialists or EAs need to meet with a small group for reteaching, they can assign students to meet with them at this time or schedule other meeting times throughout the day as necessary

Assessments

  • K-2 students will start testing the 1st week (FastBridge/WIDA)
    • Kindergarten: schedule a time with your teacher to come in or test off-site with zoom or google meets
    • 1st and 2nd grade: test at home with step-by-step directions or in person by appt only
      • Letter has been mailed home
      • Letter will also be sent home with Ipads
    • EAs will support with assessments as needed

3-5 Assessments

  • All 3-5 students will take the NWEA Test at home after morning meeting with Homeroom Teacher:

  • A How-to letter will be mailed home and posted in homeroom google classroom

Food & Instructional Supply Pick-up & Drop Off

  • On Wednesdays, distance learning families can pick up meals for their distance learning students

  • You will receive enough meals for a week

  • There will also be times throughout the year when you will need to pick up or drop off additional instructional materials that your student will need to complete their assignments
  • You will pick these up on Wednesdays.
      • Ex) Books, Fraction Shapes, Worksheets, projects, etc.
      • K-2 families, your students will be receiving review packets for the 1st two weeks (1 packet each week)
          • You will pick these packets up each Wednesday

Teachers will notify you when there are additional materials that need to be picked up.

Since we will be testing all K-2 students the 1st week of school and going over technology & learning expectations, K-2 students will not receive their iPads to take home until the week of September 14th

Plan for the 1st Two Weeks K-2

  • Students use 1st two weeks just to practice using SeeSaw
  • Teachers will Send review work packet home 1st 2 weeks (a new packet each week)
  • Students complete the packets at home and the practice using SeeSaw to take a picture of their work and send it to their teachers
  • Teachers will Post instructional videos to SeeSaw
  • Students practice logging on to SeeSaw to watch teacher videos

K-2 Attendance for Week 1

For attendance during the first week, since students will not necessarily be able to attend morning meeting, especially if they are sharing tech with a sibling, please answer the daily check-in question.

This along with completion of any assignment for the day will count a present for attendance.
