College Entrance Exams - ACT

  • LPS does not offer the ACT. Students who would like to take the ACT will need to register on the ACT website
  • The ACT no longer has a mandatory science section. It is optional.
    • “Beginning in April 2025, students who choose to take the ACT online will see an updated format that’s shorter and lets you choose whether to include the science section, allowing for greater flexibility while maintaining the accuracy and reliability colleges rely on. These changes will also apply to the paper-pencil test starting in September 2025. The Composite score will now focus on English, math, and reading, while science scores will be reported separately for those who take it.” -ACT Enhancements Announcement

College Entrance Exams - Continued

  • Some colleges are reinstating their SAT/ACT requirements so make sure you look at each school’s policy for admissions
  • What is a good score? A good score score is one that helps you get admitted to a college that you want to go to.
    • SAT: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW), scored in ranges from 200 to 800. The average SAT score is around 1050. Any score above that would be above average. A score of 1350 would put you in the top 10% of test takers and help make your application competitive at more selective schools.
    • ACT: The ACT scale is 1-36. Different colleges have varying average ACT score ranges. While some universities may look for students with scores in the 30s, others may consider scores in the mid-20s as competitive
