What is a SAM?

  • SAM stands for Student Achievement Mentor.
  • Each department has a dedicated SAM who can support you throughout your time at BDC.

What do we do?

  • We are here to listen and discuss ways to help you achieve your goals.
  • We can support with communicating with your tutors and other members of staff.
  • SAMs also teach the weekly tutorial lesson that’s part of your programme of study.

Safeguarding

Your safety is important to us, and we are available to support with anything that affects your mental health and wellbeing.

Readiness to learn

  • In classrooms you will be able to see the Readiness to learn checklist
  • The checklist is a guide for expectations in a classroom.

Attendance

  • One of our expectations as a college is that learners maintain an attendance of 100% across your entire programme of study.

Enrichment

As part of your programme of study, you will need to engage in enrichment activities, we can support you with finding enrichment that’s right for you.

Careers

Preparing for the future is important, so we can also support you in taking positive steps towards a future career.
