The final review

In the same way that you started your mentoring relationship with the Mentoring Agreement and mentee self development plan, it is important to close it by reviewing the plan for a final time and agreeing next steps with your mentee.

Review your mentee’s goals – what has been achieved and how they got there.

Talk about the future – Discuss your mentee’s future goals as well as their immediate next steps. What have they learnt though the mentoring process might help them do this.

Consider whether you’ll keep in touch and how.

Reflect on your time together – ask your mentee what they found useful about the overall mentoring and what could have been done differently.

Ask what your mentee found helpful about your mentoring approach and what could be improved.

Remind your mentee 1-2 sessions before the last that you are coming to the end of the mentoring.

Ask them to be ready with any last questions/comments and an idea of their next steps post-mentoring.
