World Language Requirement

Two years of a world language is NOT required to graduate.

However, it is required to:

    • Receive the Scholars Diploma; 3 years of the same world language is required to receive the Scholars with Distinction Diploma

    • Enter a 4 year State University

    • Receive Florida Bright Future Scholarships

    • Clearinghouse – NCAA

Is my junior year really THAT important?

YES!!! Many would argue that this is the most important year so far in high school.

  • work hard,
  • study and take the SAT/ACT,
  • establish relationships with your teachers, so they will write a letter of recommendation for you, and
  • make good grades to improve GPA

FAILED A CLASS?DON’T WORRY!

Students should use any of the options listed

below to make up a class they have failed:

    • Seminole County Virtual School – www.flvs.net
    • PLATO Credit Retrieval Lab during the school day (space limited)
    • PLATO Credit Retrieval Lab after school when it begins

It is very important for students to meet with their counselor to discuss these options if they failed a course.

2 Year College or 4 Year University

Research colleges/universities for your intended major before you apply!

2 Year:

  • Get an AA then you can transfer to a 4 year university
  • Certificate programs

4 Year:

  • Stricter admissions
  • Earn a Bachelor's degree
  • Generally more expensive

College Application Process

Begin your college search NOW!

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

Apply to more than one college!!!

It is YOUR responsibility to review the college application process for each college you are interested in and complete ALL REQUIREMENTS to include essays, letter of recommendations, submitting transcripts and test scores.

Be aware of deadlines! Missed deadlines can cost you money, scholarships, housing, books, etc.

Be aware of last years Freshmen entrance scores, GPA etc of your desired colleges.

Career Preparation/Exploration

  • Identify your interests – What skills do you possess? (Cosmetology, Automotive, Military, etc.)

  • Get experience!
    • Volunteer, shadow, work to gain experience

  • Prepare a resume.

    • Values, interests, personality, skills inventories
    • Browse careers and schools

  • Get experience!

Military

    • Research different branches for the right fit.

    • Take the ASVAB

    • Talk with active or retired military members to discuss their experiences.

ASVAB CAREER EXPLORATION

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is a career planning resource designed to help young people align their strengths and discover career options.

  • Students in grades 10-12 and first/second year post-secondary are encouraged to participate.

  • Register for the ASVAB by clicking THIS LINK!
  • ASVAB Career Exploration and Post Test interpretation will occur approximately 3 weeks after the test.

  • Checking the requirements (volunteer service, GPA, ACT/SAT test scores)
  • Apply when available after October 1st of your Senior year
  • Check the website to see if you are still on track to receive the scholarship and if not, what you can do to ensure you receive it.

TESTING: SAT & ACT

Students are encouraged to begin taking the SAT and/or ACT during the Spring of their Junior Year and again during their Senior year.

  • Recommended to have all testing done by December of your Senior year!

Fee waivers are available to students that have free/reduced lunch.

Universities recommend that you send all scores to them via:
