CRAZY ANIMALS

CRAZY ANIMALS – PROBLEM.

  • I wonder what the distribution of the number of elephant parts will be when I make a random crazy animal.
  • I wonder how many elephant parts I would expect to get when I make a random crazy animal.

  • I think that getting 1 elephant part would be the most likely.

CRAZY ANIMAL - PLAN

  • The possible outcomes are:
    • 0 elephant parts
    • 1 elephant part
    • 2 elephant parts
    • 3 elephant parts

CRAZY ANIMAL - PLAN

  • A crazy animal is made by taking a random head of an animal, random body and random set of feet and putting them together to make a crazy animal. The animals that the parts could be are Chicken, Zebra, and Elephant.
  • I am going to simulate this game using three dice.

1 die will represent the heads

The second die will represent the bodies

And the third die will represent the feet.

If I roll a 1or 2 then that will represent an elephant

If I roll a 3 or 4 then that will represent a chicken

If I roll a 5 or 6 then that will represent a zebra

CRAZY ANIMAL - PLAN

  • I will roll all the dice at the same time
  • I will always roll the dice on the same surface from a height of about 5 cm so that all rolls are consistent and random.
  • I will always roll onto the desk – this is a smooth surface so the dice will always face straight up.

CRAZY ANIMAL - PLAN

  • I will roll the dice 50 times and record the number of elephant parts that appear on a tally chart
  • I chose 50 trials because if I did more then the simulation will take too long and 50 should be enough data to answer the question.

ANALYSIS

Number of elephant parts

Probability

9 of 11

ANALYSIS

  • I noticed that the data is slightly skewed to the right with a peak at 1 elephant part. From my simulation I can see that getting a whole elephant is the lest likely. This makes sense because there must not be many ways to make a whole elephant.

  • I was correct when I predicted that one elephant part would be the most common.

10 of 11

CONCLUSION

  • I am most likely to get a crazy animal with one elephant part. Next most likely is zero elephant parts. Getting 3 elephant parts was the lest likely.

TODAY

  • You need to make sure you can do all parts of the assessment (PPDAC)
  • There will also be a percentage of part to get Merit or excellence
