Math Benchmark November 4th-8th

The benchmark will cover content taught in the first quarter, with a focus on operations, number patterns, and data representation.

Key Standards Covered

NC.3.OA.1 - Understanding Multiplication

  • What it means:
    • Students will learn that multiplication is a way to add equal groups together. For example, if there are 3 groups of 4 apples, students should recognize that this is 3 x 4 = 12 apples.
    • How to support at home: Practice grouping objects and skip counting (2s, 5s, 10s).

NC.3.OA.2 - Understanding Division as Sharing

  • What it means:
    • Division is introduced as an equal sharing of items into groups. For instance, dividing 12 apples into 4 groups means each group will get 3 apples.
    • How to support at home: Work on sharing objects equally and using real-life examples (sharing toys, food, etc.).

NC.3.NBT.2 - Addition and Subtraction within 1,000

  • What it means:
    • Students will practice adding and subtracting numbers within 1,000 using strategies like regrouping and mental math.
    • How to support at home: Provide practice problems, encourage estimation, and use place value strategies.
