Warm Up: Look at Images of a Theme!
Sometimes artists choose a theme for an exhibit. A theme means one idea that goes with all the art. An exhibit is a place to show art. Look at these pieces of art with your table. Which do you think go with the theme, “Ocean”? Which does not go with the theme?
Amsterdam Harbor Scene, by Reinier Nooms, called Zeeman, 1655/55, National Gallery of Art Museum
Children Playing on the Beach, by Mary Cassatt, 1884, National Gallery of Art Museum
Metal Door Lock, by Earl Butlin, 1937, National Gallery of Art Museum
Explore: How to Display Art
Sometimes we make art displays. Why did we put our art on display for the school? Where else could we display our art? How did we prepare our art for display? Talk to your table and then share with the class.
Today, you will look at some of the art students made this year at our school. See the next slides for steps.
View School Slide Show
Watch this slide show of some art from all the grades this year. Take notes on your favorite ones. You will be making art based on an idea you get from this art show!

Creative Response:
Sometimes artists take paper to museums with them to draw. Think of some of the ideas you saw in the slide show. On a piece of paper, choose something from the slideshow to draw. You can make it your own way. Here’s my example:
Early Finishers
Put your thumb up when you think it’s a Level 4! I will come check it off. Then, you may use the Inspiration Library to draw something of your own choice!
Clean Up Game:
Sit quietly in your seat with your folder closed in front of you!
You may use hand sanitizer on the way out of class!
