What does state law require us to do?

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, an education for employment program shall provide pupils in grades 6-12 with academic and career planning services, including providing each pupil with all of the following:

  • Individualized support, appropriate to the pupils needs to annually update an academic career plan (ACP)

  • The ACP will be included as part of the individualized education plan (IEP) for students with a disability

  • Access to academic and career planning software to support the process

  • Access to a formal process for connecting pupils to teachers and other staff for assistance with development and implementation of each student's ACP

Academic and Career Planning

Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.

Taking college/career readiness to the next level

The national superintendent's group has advocated moving away from one overall measure of readiness (like ACT) and instead focusing on a dashboard of indicators. This better matches the MASD commitment to a comprehensive high school model, and we will focus on identifying our indicators of success in this area over the next year.
