  • Even Numbers are divisible by 2: 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14….
  • Odd Numbers are not evenly divisible by 2: 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15….
  • Consecutive Numbers follow in order: 5,6,7,8,9,10
  • Prime Numbers are only divisible by 1 and itself: 3,5,7,11,13,17
  • Composite Numbers are divisible by multiple factors: 1,2,3,4,6,12
  • Factors are number by which another number is evenly divisible: 10 - 1,2,5,&10 are factors of 10.
  • Exponents is a small number positioned slightly higher and to the right of another; it means repeated multiplication. 4^3 = 4*4*4=64
  • Square Numbers are those that result from multiplying a number by itself. √64 is 8. 8*8=64
  • Whole Numbers are numbers with no decimals: 1,2,3,4,5
  • Integers are negative numbers: -1,-3,-5
  • Rational Numbers are fractions or a ratios: ⅞, ½,.456,.898
  • Irrational Numbers can be written as decimals, not perfect squares: √5, 0.325487, 3.14(pie symbol).

Fractions

  • Fractions are parts of a whole.
  • Denominator is the bottom number.
  • Numerator is the top number.
  • Proper Fractions have a numerator that is less than the denominator. ⅓ or ⅞
  • Improper Fractions have a numerator greater than or equal to the denominator. 10/3 or 7/5
  • Mixed Numbers contain a whole number and a fraction.
  • Reducing Fractions means using smaller numbers to express the same amount. 2/4 = ½
  • Finding Common Denominator means the number on the bottom are the same. ⅔ & ⅘ can be multiplied by ⅔ * 5 and ⅘ *3 = 10/15 & 12/15

  • Ratios compare two numbers using words, numbers or fractions. 8:10 or 8/10 or .08
  • Proportions is an equation that states that two ratios are equivalent. ¾ = 6/8
  • Probability is the likelihood of something happening.
  • Greater than symbol is >. 10 >4
  • Less than symbol is <. 15<25
  • Equal to symbol is =. 16=16/16
  • Greatest Common Factor (GCF) is the largest number that is a factor of two or more given numbers.
  • Multiples are numbers that can be evenly divided.

Measurements: Conversions

30

LENGTH: 12 inches = 1 foot

3 feet = 1 yard

1,760 yards = 1 mile

5,280 feet = 1 mile

CAPACITY:

8 ounces = 1 cup

2 cups = 1 pint

2 pints = 1 quart

4 quarts = 1 gallon

WEIGHT:

16 ounces = 1 pound

2,000 pounds = 1 ton

TIME:

60 seconds = 1 minute

60 minutes = 1 hour

24 hours = 1 day

7 days = 1 week

52 weeks = 1 years

12 months = 1 year

365 days = 1 year

Convert 6 feet into inches:

6 feet = 6 X 12 inches = 72 inches

Algebraic Concepts

  • Variables - letters or symbols that represent unknown values. 4m - the m is a variable.
  • Constant - numbers or values that are known are called constants. 4m - 7 - the 7 is a constant.
  • Coefficients - the number part of a term containing a number and a variable. 4m - the 4 is a coefficient.
  • Algebraic Terms - any variable, constant, or multiplication or division of a number with a variable. 8y is an algebraic term.
  • Algebraic Expressions - combines numbers, operations, and at least one variable. 5cd + 7 - 5cd is an algebraic expression.
  • Simplify - this means to combine like terms 6a + 7 - a + 5 to simplify means 5a + 12.

Work Formula = Rate X Time

Carlos lays bricks at a rate of 20 bricks per hour, how many hours will it take him to complete a brick wall made up of 800 bricks?

800 = 20 X t

T = 800 / 20

T = 40 hours
