Hello families,

  • Welcome to Week 6 in Grade 5!
  • Thank you for all of your help supporting your child to be on time and dressed in full uniform. As a friendly reminder, crocs are not allowed. In addition, navy and khaki bottoms are allowed only. Black leggings, grey sweatpants, etc. are not permitted. I will send emails daily to families when students are not in compliance with the school uniform. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Chromebook Contracts were sent home. Most students have returned their Chromebook Contracts with parent signatures. It is your child’s responsibility to charge their devices at home daily and return to school with a 100% charged Chromebook daily.
  • Thank you to the families who attended Back To School Night on Monday, 9/29/25. It was a pleasure to meet with you, and I appreciate your dedication to your child’s education. I have included a link for all families to view from Back To School Night in this newsletter.
  • Looking ahead: We will be celebrating The Week of Respect this week with spirit

days. Please see the next page in this newsletter.

  • Looking ahead: There is no school on Monday, 10/13/25. Enjoy your three day weekend!
  • Please email me with any questions, comments or concerns: LisaTambini@paps.net
  • Thank you for ALL of YOUR support! :) :) :)

Sincerely, Miss Tambini :)

  • Students are invited to bring water bottles or tumblers to class to refill with water as the day progresses.
  • There are 0 hoodies allowed in class during the instructional day.
  • Crocs are not allowed.
  • Gum chewing is not allowed.
  • All toys need to stay at home.
  • Cell phones need to stay in students’ backpacks during the instructional day.

This week, we are learning:

    • Math: In topic C, students develop fluency with estimation. They explain how estimation helps them get started with division and determine whether a quotient is reasonable. Students know that if an estimate is too high, the number of groups of the divisor does not fit into the dividend, so they must remove at least one group. If an estimate is too low, there are more groups of the divisor that fit into the dividend, so they must add at least one group.

    • Reading: Readers make predictions based upon the text they are reading and the mental movie that is happening in their heads. They then justify their predictions as to whether they were right of wrong. Characters are complicated. Just like us, characters have different sides with different people and places.

    • Science: Science will take place in Marking Periods 2 and 3.

    • Social Studies: Social Studies will take place in Marking Periods 1 and 4. Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from 9/15 to 10/15. This week, we will learn about Native Americans by exploring different environments and learning how the Inuits adapted their daily lives.

    • Writing: Students will use point of view so they can tell more specific details and images of their story. Students will be able to answer the following questions:

  • How do authors tell the stories of their lives?
  • Why do they tell their stories?
  • Why do readers enjoy these stories?
  • How do writers collect and develop ideas?
  • How can I make my writing clearer, focused, and hold my reader’s attention?
  • How do writers use craft to highlight emotion, complex inner thinking, and tension of the moment?
