How do I know which option is best?

Talk with the CCP advisor at your high school:

  • Think about your priorities
    • What are your goals after high school?
    • What do you want to explore career wise?
  • Think about college realities:
    • Self-discipline required, Ability to follow written instructions
    • Attendance (can be dropped if not participating)
    • Grades (must have a C to transfer)
    • Motivation (balance coursework, athletics or job)
    • Technology

Important Stuff!

  • COLLEGE LEVEL work, expectations
  • NO LATE WORK, ZEROS are given when earned!
  • Grades are available 24/7 , affects High School AND college GPA!
  • Students will be responsible for communication with the instructor. College students are reminded to be mindful of tone, use proper grammar and punctuation and do not expect an immediate response (usually a 48 hour window) when using email.
  • Lack of attendance (or coursework) will result in a Withdrawal.
  • Online college courses are NOT the same as virtual high school courses! VERY different! SEATED courses are an option!!!

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Grades are available 24/7 in student’s online portal! Only a final grade will show on the high school report card.
  • Encourage your student to communicate with their instructor.
  • Talk to your student about the importance of email.
  • Talk to your student about the importance of due dates and deadlines.
  • Check out the FAQ page!

Drops : A course can be dropped during the census period, or 10 days after the class starts (this period is shorter for courses that are not 16 weeks long).. This removes the class from your schedule completely and does not produce a grade. It will not show on a transcript.

Withdrawals : A course can be withdrawn from the day after the census period until the deadline (75% date). It does produce a grade (usually of W) and will show on your transcripts. Multiple withdrawals can lead to academic probation, suspension and can lead to other issues with financial aid.
