Overall Experience

• Overall, I am impressed by how precisely and grammatically ChatGPT can translate itineraries of Lion Travel.
• ChatGPT 4.0 does well on translating toponyms.
• However, there are still some challenges when translating cases for Lion Travel using ChatGPT.

Challenges & Solutions

• The challenges that I encountered the most were the distortion of ChatGPT translation.
• E.g.

原文：它(凡爾賽宮)隨即成為歐洲最大、最雄偉、最豪華的宮殿建築，並成為法國乃至歐洲的貴族活動中心、藝術中心和文化時尚的發源地

GPT: It then became the largest, most majestic, and luxurious palace in Europe and served as the activity center for French and European nobility, as well as the epicenter for arts, culture, and fashion.

Sometimes, I also need to enter specific prompts to make the translation more precise/correct, or satisfy my needs.

• When ChatGPT cannot really tell if the result of the English translation should be a complete sentence or a noun (as in Chinese, it is not so clear with little context).
• Therefore, if I want to translate terms such as 精選旅宿 as a noun, I used this prompt to make ChatGPT translate it as an English noun phrase rather than results like “choose accommodation.”

In conclusion, I have two types of solution when I encounter a challenge or incorrect translation of ChatGPT:

1. I restructure the result and change some wrong vocabulary.
2. I change the prompt, making my demands clearer.

• Before this course/experience, I didn’t know that telling a computer what I want it to give me was this hard.
• To some extent, it also trained my ability to express my needs clearly.

Capitalization

Fonts

• ChatGPT can have translation results with more correct capitalization
• Afterall, it is more regular than context problems.
• Save more time for translators/editors.

• Lion Travel’s system only allows us to paste texts with no fonts/format.
• Maybe ChatGPT can provide an option to let users copy the texts with clear format like Google Translation.

Suggestions

Let me start a new line!!!

• When users press enter in the message box, it will send the message directly instead of start a new line.
• But sometimes I would like to separate the texts and start a new paragraph as I think it will make the meaning more clear.

Feedback on the portal

Dear Lion Travel Portal, …

• There are so many traps, or rules.
• Cannot accidentally mess up the number
• Cannot paste any words with fonts
• Only one direction to 反白
• Saving problems?
• Sometimes, the original numbers/content is not 100% correct
• All of these actions may lead to translate/edit the whole itinerary again (if we didn’t save a backup file ourselves)
