Pay vs Service Dates for Senate Faculty
You are an Academic-Year (AY), 9/12 employee, which means you are expected to be in service to the University for 9 months (September through June) … but your salary is spread out and paid over 12 months, year-round.
This results in a disconnect between the pay/payroll period and corresponding service period—they do not align:
PAY:
SERVICE:
Fall
Winter
Spring
As of today: even though Fall quarter has not yet begun, you have already been pre-paid for Fall quarter service, starting July 1.
This misalignment between payroll period dates and service period dates may have pay implications for leaves or other pay-impacting actions.
For example: you want to take an unpaid personal leave for Winter quarter. If you don’t submit this request until December, you’ve already been paid for November (for Winter quarter) and must pay it back.
