Course Outcomes

  1. Describe and utilize different teaching strategies to promote TK-12 students’ development of:
    1. Phonological and phonemic awareness
    2. Phonics and spelling
    3. Oral reading fluency
    4. Reading comprehension
    5. Vocabulary
    6. Effective expression (writing and speaking)
  2. Draw on culturally and linguistically responsive-sustaining pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning, and a Whole Child approach to create engaging and motivating literacy learning experiences that build on students’ assets and are responsive to their diverse learning profiles
  3. Design and facilitate Language Arts and Integrated ELA/ELD instruction that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing development
  4. Use and analyze different types of literacy assessments to inform instruction and differentiation and monitor students’ progress in literacy development
  5. Use screening, assessments, and intervention to support students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia, within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports
  6. ED 231E: Collaborate with other service providers to provide supplemental instruction and intensive intervention in literacy that aligns with state standards, incorporates the California Dyslexia Guidelines, and addresses learners’ individual IEP goals.
