Haiti 2010 earthquake

On January 12, 2010 Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake

measuring 7 on the Richter scale, killing 200,000 people

and displacing over two million from their homes.

Among the dead were 102 UN staff,

including two human rights officials.

The earthquake flattened the Haitian capital, dealing a huge blow to Haiti's already vulnerable economy and infrastructure, as well as severely hindering nation-building efforts.

This event was the largest in the history of the UN in terms of the number of casualties.
