Dungeon Crawl

We haven’t done a dungeon crawl in a while. We’ve talked about them on the show, and it inspired me to run one for fun. We’re one session in...

  • Is this a good change of pace?
  • Were we ready for a dungeon crawl, or is that just me?
    • Mike, you mentioned you’d been loving the story-driven “World of Dungeons”

Characters

You guys ran pre-mades.

  • Just enough on the sheets to run with? Or too generic to be fun?

Starting Off

The module starts in town with rumors, etc. And you have to “decide” to go into the dungeon. The module even jokes: “It’ll be a short adventure if they don’t.” So I just skipped all that and TOLD you that you were going the dungeon...

  • Were you okay with that?
  • Is there a more graceful way to introduce a dungeon crawl? Like try to “invisibly” funnel you toward it?
  • Would you have preferred that “herding,” or is a little meta-game honesty okay?

Shopping

Before I dropped you in the entryway… I let you go shopping. We usually have an issue with “planning…”

  • How’d we do this time?

Map

I made a map at half the usual scale (½-in = 5ft) and we used an aquarium stone just to represent the room that we were in.

  • Brian, you love the grid. And we did a grid for “overland” movement, but not for move-by-move combat. Weak tea, or a good compromise?
  • Mike, you could see the corridors and rooms. Did you find yourself meta-gaming?
  • Was it okay that I teased the secret rooms?

Descriptions

I STUDIED the box-text so that I could read it with speed and emotion.

  • Did it feel like I was reading?

Combat

Holy God, combat was FAST. We had, like, six combats in a little over an hour of play time.

  • Did you enjoy combat?
  • Did it feel dangerous?
