Day 1

6:00 AM - Students start to report to Shore or Memorial

6:45 AM - Depart school for Washington DC

- Rest and meal stops will be made every 2-3 hours

- A boxed lunch will be included.

2:15 AM - Arrive at Air & Space at Dulles Airport

4:30 AM - Arrive at Arlington National Cemetery

7:00 PM - Dinner at the Pentagon City Food Court or Boxed Dinner

8:15 PM - Check into hotel for a two night stay:

7:00 AM - Breakfast at the hotel.

8:00 AM - Depart hotel for stop at Lafayette Park at the White House.

- Souvenir shopping opportunity.

- Capitol Building Tours

12:00 PM - National Mall where groups will visit various Smithsonian Museums.

- $15 provided to each student for lunch at various locations on mall.

- Various monument visits at WW2, Lincoln, Korea, Vietnam, MLK,

FDR, and Jefferson.

7:00 PM - Arrive at Bowlmor for dinner and bowling.

9:45 PM - Arrive back to hotel:

What time does my child need to arrive to school on the day of departure?

  • Students may start arriving to school at 6:00 AM.
  • Students should arrive no later than 6:30 AM in order to ensure a timely departure.

  • A class meeting will be held later in the year.
  • Students will select their own roommates.
  • Admin / Guidance will work with students that need help finding roommates for the trip.

What happens once students enter the building on departure day?

  • Students should report to the large gym.
  • Luggage and bags will be checked by staff.
  • Students will remain in the large gym until we board the buses.
  • School nurses will be available for any last second medication drop off.

How much luggage can be brought?

  • Students may bring one bag to be checked and carried under the bus in the cargo area.
  • Students may also bring one carry on.
  • Students are responsible for carrying all of their own items.
  • ALL LUGGAGE SHOULD BE MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME!!!

  • ALL SCHOOL DRESS CODE RULES APPLY
  • Comfortable shoes. We will walk… A LOT!!!
  • Dress for the weather. Rain or shine students will be walking and visiting sites. Pocket ponchos are a great idea.
  • Pants or shorts w/ pockets are recommended.

  • Souvenir money is optional.
  • Food is included in the price of the trip.
  • Please be mindful of the amount you will be sending.
  • Students are responsible for all money that they bring.

Are snacks permitted for the bus?

  • Yes, as long as they follow these guidelines…
    • Drinks must be in a non-glass resealable container.
    • No energy drinks… No… None
    • No coolers.
  • Snacks on bus need to be stored in carry on bag.
  • Please refrain from items w/ peanuts/peanut butter.
  • BRING WATER!!!

What electronics are permitted on the trip?

  • Cell phones are permitted.
  • Other small personal electronic devices are permitted on the trip. (iPods, Gaming Devices, e-books, etc.)
  • School issued Chromebooks are NOT permitted.
  • No laptops or personal DVD players.
  • External chargers are a great idea. We cannot guarantee charging capabilities on the bus.

Will my student remain on the same bus the entire trip?

  • Yes. Students will be assigned a bus for the entire trip.
  • Changes would only occur if a specific need arises in the course of the 3 days.

Will movies be shown on the bus?

  • Yes. Chaperones will provide movies for the students and staff on buses to watch.

Is there security in the hotel?

  • Yes. Guards will be on duty throughout the evening.
  • Chaperones will do a final check in at lights out.
  • If any rooms are causing an issue, security will notify chaperones who will address the issue.

What is the policy for students who do not meet the behavior expectations on the trip?

  • Staff will conference with student w/ a possible call home.
  • If a student participates in extremely unsafe or illegal activity may result in a phone call home to be picked up at the expense of the parents.
  • Student is subject to further consequences at school upon return.

What time should I pick up my student from school upon return from the trip?

  • Students should be picked up at 8:00 PM from their middle school.
  • Students will call home 30 mins out from returning to school.

What if my child needs medication?

  • The school nurse will need all medication and paperwork turned into the clinic, prior to the trip by the Wednesday the week before.
    • Memorial: April 20
    • Shore: April 27
  • This includes over the counter medications.
  • Staff members that medication trained will administer medications as directed on the paperwork.
  • Paperwork must be completed with medications and is included as a link HERE.

How do I get the medication back?

  • Medication will only be returned to parents.
  • Upon return, parents will need to see one of the chaperones from their child’s bus.
  • Medication can also be picked up from the clinic the next day.
