B1 INFINITY WEEK WEDNESDAY
Lesson 01
Science Puzzle
Complete 4-5 puzzles. Pause after every activity.
GAP FILL
Word Bank: Cracked, Solve, Analytical, Answer, Creative Thinking, Observant.

What is citizen science?
Are we all scientists?
Why is science important?
In pairs, choose a project you would like to take part in.
Make a mini presentation describing the project and why you like it.
PRESENTATION
Go through the introduction as a group, ask the class for suggestions for the 'select an activity’ section and briefly discuss the activity.
To be on the same wavelength
To push one’s buttons
To pull the plug
To feel like a cog in a machine
To blow a fuse
It’s not rocket science
Choose two idioms to research. Then write a short dialogue using the idioms.
LESSON 2
EXPERIMENT (TOP SECRET)
Observe and collect new vocabulary in the next few activities and then memorise them.
WORD
Look, it’s a 'word' in its natural habitat.
THE MEMORY PALACE
How will this picture help you remember new vocabulary?
Discuss how to remember a list of words, for example, a shopping list by using a memory palace. More information here.
MEMORY TEST
Everyone, share your words, and I will write them on the board.
You will have five minutes to make a mind palace for the list of words.
Then, I will erase the words and you will have to write down as many as you can.
The student with the longest list wins.
Complete the activities and write down at least 6 new science vocabulary items
Students complete the activities on this website and write down new vocabulary terms.
What is a clone?
Is cloning a good thing?
Discussion
DOLLY THE SHEEP
Predict: Why is Dolly the sheep important to science?
DOLLY THE SHEEP
Mini Debate: To clone or not to clone
Jane is blind and has a guide dog called Bob.
Bob is Jane’s best friend and she feels that without him she couldn’t live.
Should Jane be allowed to clone Bob before he dies?
Should people be allowed to clone their pets?
There is only one Giant Panda left on earth. It does not have a partner to breed with so once it dies the species will be extinct.
Should scientists be allowed to clone another Giant Panda?
Should scientists be allowed to clone endangered species?
A developing country with food shortages want to clone their best food producing animals, cows, chickens, pigs etc. to try and produce more food per animal to solve their food shortages.
Should countries be allowed to clone animals to increase food production?
John Green is a farmer in Texas and he wants to clone his prize bull to sell it and make money.
Should farmers be allowed to clone their best animals to make money?
Mini Debate: To clone or not to clone
MEMORY TRAIN
In the memory train game, each student will say a word. They will also say the word of the student before them, and so on.
LESSON 3
IF + CONDITION + RESULT
PRESENT SIMPLE
Zero Conditional
WHEN: To talk about things that are generally true, like a scientific fact.
EXAMPLE: If you leave ice in the sun, it melts.
IN PAIRS MAKE SENTENCES USING THE ZERO CONDITIONAL
IF + PAST SIMPLE + PRESENT CONDITIONAL
Second conditional
WHEN: Imaginary situations in the present or future.
EXAMPLE:
YOU ARE A WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST
You are visiting a dangerous rainforest alone to observe animals in their natural habitat.
In groups, choose seven objects that may help you on your adventure.
Students should discuss the scenarios in groups first and then share their answer with the class. Rule: They can only use their chosen object once.
BREAKFAST TIME
Imagine you need to find some food. What tool would you use and why?
If I had a ............. I would ...........
TIGER
Imagine you encounter an angry tiger. How would you calm it down?
If I had a ............. I would ...........
YOU ARE LOST
Imagine you escaped the tiger, but now you are lost. How would you find your way back to the path?
If I ........................
A SWARM OF WASPS
Imagine you climbed a tree to find your way back to the path but accidentally disturbed a wasps’ nest. What would you do?
If..............................
A RARE FLOWER
Imagine you discover a rare flower, but you are not allowed to pick it. How would you make sure you remember this moment?
If..............................
STORM
Imagine a dangerous storm is coming. How would you find shelter?
If..............................
IT'S NIGHT TIME.
Imagine you need to build a fire to stay warm. Which object would you choose to make a fire?
If……
You survived! Your valuable contributions to science will never be forgotten.
INDEPENDENT STUDY
Follow the QR code and learn as much as you can in 10 minutes. Afterwards I will ask you some questions.
Matter Marathon
In pairs race to create a list of FIVE examples for each category (Solid, liquids and gases). Ready, set, go!
