Hopefully this will have about 30 minutes (we can take a bit more time if we need to–I want to make sure everyone is feeling ready)!!

TMany ss are well on their way with this from last week. Today, the goals are:

Make sure everyone in your group has answered all 3 questions on the page (it doesn’t have to be perfect!)
Have everyone decide if they want to just speak, or if they also want pictures and/or writing displayed during their presentation
Find photos and add them to this presentation or have ss text their photos to me

Here’s a mostly related video on how to add photos from the web–if it’s a photo they already have on their phone, it’s better if they just text it to me

For page 16 of class packet: Use text boxes to fill in brainstorming map. It’s easier to do text boxes in Slides than it is in Docs; that is why I don’t recommend using your Google Doc! I also don’t recommend Zoom annotations because those will disappear, and you might want to refer back to the brainstorming during the paragraph writing process.

Invite Ss to turn to page 16 of their own packets. Read prompt together. Model filling out the brainstorming map. Ss should copy on their sheets.

Middle circle: Ask Ss, what is the topic? Write the topic as a word or short phrase. It should be something like “yard sale” or “getting ready for yard sale.”
Each idea should go on all the branches. Ideas should be a question and the answer, if possible. You can use different circles for the question and answers, so that means there’s space for only have 3 question/answer pairs total. It is totally fine for your group to do this all together as group writing; please leave that as an option for at least some students. Advanced students might start working on their own unprompted, which is great.
Take your time and invite Ss to show or read their ideas when they finish. Wait until nearly everyone is finished, as best you can!
In your class packet, go to page 17 (outline.) Elicit a topic sentence. The topic sentence should be based on the idea in the middle circle and/or the prompt. See what Ss can come up with! Remind Ss that a topic sentence should answer the writing question and can repeat some key words from it.
Model going from brainstorming ideas to outlining sentences for all the branches.
For a conclusion sentence, ask, “How do you feel about this topic?” Invite Ss to write a sentence based on how they feel about taxes (lol), etc.
Ss who finish their outlines should read their sentences aloud. For a challenge to someone who needs more to do, check to see if they have transition words to start body sentences.Transition words can be somewhat optional, or for high level Ss only.
Ss who finish their outlines may then copy their sentences into paragraph format on page 12. Remind them to indent!
Share paragraphs, if time.
Ss who finish everything fast may independently do page 15 of their packet while you continue to help Ss who need the whole time to write their paragraphs. (If they have really finished everything here, it means they are super high level and should have no problem working on this page on their own, perhaps with the occasional check in question for you.)
