  • Doors will open at 8:30 am, bell to start classes at 8.40am (attendance taken).

  • If you arrive after 8.40am you will need to go to the office to sign your child in.

  • Our aim is to encourage students to be independent young people, and this begins with preparing themselves for the day. This includes carrying their own school bags, homework folders, any notes and collecting their own chair.

  • This is a time for your child to settle in, complete their Champion Life Check In and to organise themselves with everything they will need for the day, this is all on the morning power point.

  • WE UNDERSTAND THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE DIFFERENT STRENGTHS AND AREAS THAT NEED IMPROVING.

  • WE ARE VERY MINDFUL OF DIFFERENTIATING ACTIVITIES WITHIN OUR CLASSES TO HELP ALL STUDENTS SUCCEED AT THEIR LEVEL.

SOME EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

  • READING GROUPS – SPLIT BETWEEN THE TWO CLASSES.
  • SPELLING GROUPS – THESE ARE SPLIT BETWEEN BOTH CLASSES AND GIVE MORE TARGETED INSTRUCTION AND SUPPORT.
  • SMALL GROUP SUPPORT IN MATHS – DIRECTLY TARGETING THOSE STUDENTS THAT NEED SUPPORT WITH PARTICULAR CONCEPTS.

  • SOME STUDENTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HAVING A SPECIFIC LEARNING DIFFICULTY AND WE ARE HAPPY TO WORK WITH OUTSIDE AGENCIES TO SUPPORT THE STUDENT.

  • WE USE THESE TO HELP STUDENTS FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING ASKED OF THEM SO THEY CAN SUCCEED IN SHOWING THEIR LEARNING.

  • WE HELP THEM TO KNOW WHERE THE GOAL POSTS HOW WITHOUT TELLING THEM EXACTLY HOW TO KICK IT!

  • STUDENTS CAN THEN CHECK AGAINST THESE TO SEE WHERE THEY NEED TO IMPROVE.

LEARNING INTENTIONS AND SUCCESS CRITERIA

  • MAKING JESUS REAL (MJR) IS A PRACTICAL AND ACTIVITY-BASED PROGRAMME DESIGNED TO FOSTER A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS THAT IS REAL TO THE STUDENTS AND RELEVANT TO THEIR DAILY LIVES. MJR IS CENTERED AROUND THE BELIEF THAT WE ARE THE IMAGE OF JESUS TO ALL PEOPLE AROUND US.

  • WE ARE HIS REPRESENTATIVES, AND OUR ACTIONS SHOULD REFLECT HIS VALUES TAUGHT IN THE GOSPEL. JESUS TOLD US THAT WE ARE ALL PART OF HIS FAMILY AND THAT THE WAY WE TREAT OTHERS SHOULD BE REFLECTIVE OF THE WAY WE WOULD TREAT HIM.

  • URSTRONG’S FRIENDOLOGY 101 IS A SKILLS-BASED SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM THAT HELPS BUILD CHILDREN’S SKILLS IN FOSTERING AND MAINTAINING HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS.

  • IT IS A PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO ASSIST CHILDREN IN YEARS 1-6 IN DEVELOPING THE SKILLS, LANGUAGE AND SELF-CONFIDENCE TO BE BETTER FRIENDS AND DEVELOP A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS.

  • THE KEEPING SAFE CHILD PROTECTION CURRICULUM IS AN IMPORTANT PROGRAMME THAT HELPS STUDENTS TO DEVELOP AWARENESS AND SKILLS AROUND PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS.

  • THE MAIN THEME IS TO BE TEACHING THE STUDENTS THE CORRECT NAMES FOR BODY PARTS, IDENTIFYING PEOPLE ON THEIR TRUST WALL AND TUNING IN TO THE WARNING SIGNS THEIR BODY GIVES THEM WHEN THEY ARE FEELING UNSAFE.

PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CHILD TO BRING THEIR LAPTOP TO SCHOOL EACH DAY CHARGED AT A MINIMUM OF 75%��IF YOUR CHILD FORGETS THEIR LAPTOP, PLEASE DO NOT GO HOME TO GET IT.

  • IF YOUR CHILD HASN’T ALREADY SHOWN YOU, PLEASE ASK THEM TO SHOW YOU HOW THESE PLATFORMS ARE USED.

  • WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT CHILDREN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IN THEIR LEARNING.
  • PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR HOMEWORK, AS WELL AS, PACKING THEIR BELONGINGS READY FOR EACH DAY.

  • WE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO BE ON TIME TO CLASS – THIS MEANS ARRIVING NO EARLIER THAN 8.20AM WHERE POSSIBLE AND REMAINING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM.
  • STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PLAY BALL GAMES BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL.
  • ABSENTEE – IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT, PLEASE COMPLETE AN ONLINE ABSENTEE NOTE OR SEND US AN EMAIL. THIS CAN ALSO BE DONE IF YOU KNOW THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT IN ADVANCE.

SEESAW

This is now OLC’s formal reporting format that we are implementing over the year to give you an insight to your child's achievement. This is so you as a parent are informed of your child’s learning in real time and it will allow you to celebrate their success and provide you with an opportunity to work towards their goals at home as well as at school. 

Don't forget you can have both parents or any family members (eg. Grandma) access your child's Seesaw account and that you can access directly with the Seesaw Family app on your phone, device or computer.

A copy of your family code was sent home last week – please let us know if you are unable to access your child’s journal.

HOMEWORK

  • In line with the new OLC Homework format – students in Year 4 are asked to complete the following and bring this in ready to be check on Friday morning.
  • Students are asked to complete a Reading Log over the week which will need a comment from their grown ups once a week.
  • They are also asked to complete their times tables once a week – this is to be of their choosing. There is an example on One Note to show how this needs to be set up.
