  • Sit down with a friend, neighbor, or family member and explain some of the ideas and facts presented, or perhaps give them a list of these resources.

  • Educate your client by reviewing the first four resources together. Then maybe include the last two of this presentation if the client would like to learn more.

  • Play the fourth resource video during a treatment group or 12-step meeting to help make others aware of the difference between racism and antiracism.

  • This fairly short read from PBS explains the definition of racism and reveals when the first sign of racism was seen in the world during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The article goes on to recount the global history of racism throughout the world, including the transformation from biblical to biological-based racism. Finally, the author explains how combined with cultural racism, they both thrive in the world today under the illusion of non-racism. The article was written by Edgar E. Robinson, Professor of U.S. history at Stanford University, under the pen name George M. Fredrickson.

  • This 18 min. Ted talk, filmed at Clark University, provides an understanding of race construct while breaking down race categories and their historical development, along with the pseudo-science behind them. With humorous wit, the speaker gives detailed changes to racial categories over the history of the US census from 1790 to the year 2000, a census that ended with the addition of 15 racial categories. The speaker, Teja Arboleda, is the Creative Director for Entertaining Diversity, Inc. He has his bachelor’s degree in sociology and has spoken often at universities and corporations in 48 states.

  • This Forbes article gives excellent insight into current global racism and its need to be addressed domestically and globally. The article includes several recent examples of extreme racism in many countries across the globe. This includes the current, unchecked, racism and antisemitism in Ukraine along with the rampant racism toward black people in China. The article also lists other countries by the rank of racial bias. The rankings were determined by the Harvard Implicit Bias Association Test and various media outlets. The article was written by Forbes Media contributor Maia Niguel Hoskin.

  • This 51 min Ted Talk, featuring speaker Ibram X. Kendi, defines the difference between not racist and antiracist. He helps the listener recognize and reject prejudices in our personal beliefs and public policies, along with steps to take responsibility and create change. Kendi accentuates that the heart of anti-racism is love. He believes that love is the fuel to promote equality throughout the world and bring love and acceptance to all mankind. Mr. Kendi, who is an author and historian wrote the book “How to Be an Antiracist”.

  • Get invited as a speaker to a school, business, or community event and use one of the following resources in a presentation to promote antiracist policies and ideals.

  • Mail a brochure containing a list of all the resources out to schools, companies, and community resource centers.

  • Canvas college communities and hand out flyers listing these 10 resources to anyone interested or maybe someone seeking ways to create a change in the organization.

  • This short YouTube video from Forbes, featuring Dana Brownlee, explains ten actions white people can take in promoting racial justice in and out of the workplace. She covers things like personal approaches for befriending and empathizing with people of color, seeking diverse employers, talking to children, mentoring others, and the responsibilities of leadership roles in a company. Dana Brownlee is a Senior Contributor to Forbes Media, where diversity, equity, and inclusion are of vital importance.

  • This 3 min. Ted Talk from the University of Dayton is part of an anti-racist lecture series presented by Dr. Leslie Picca. The short lecture defines anti-racism as a call to explicitly take racism into account, disrupt racial hierarchies, and promote social justice. The speaker touches on several ways to challenge our thinking along with actions to take to disrupt policies and practices in a college organization while on the journey to becoming anti-racist. Dr. Picca is a professor in the social sciences department at the University of Dayton.

  • This is a 55 min. slide presentation from the VCU School of Education. The presentation delves into promoting anti-racist educators in our schools that will address the pervasive aspect of whiteness and enforce the need to challenge whiteness. The presentation also mentions the vital responsibilities of teachers in doing what is best for the child, regardless of parental views, to ensure the child’s adequate preparation for society. The presentation was presented by Dr. Andrew P. Daire – Dean of Education, and Dr. Joshua P. Cole – Director of Strategic Engagement at VCU.

  • This is a short video from PBS Wisconsin Education that presents several things a teacher can do to promote anti-racist learning environments in the classroom. Two educators cover topics that include the definition of anti-racism, books to use in the classroom, positive presentation of media, classroom setup, and preparing for uncomfortable yet necessary critical conversations. The two speakers featured in the video are educators Dr. Margaret Penick-Parks, a former K-12 teacher, and Gail Bertram, a current first-grade teacher.

  • Use the research provided in the last resources to practice evidence-informed social action and help you or your organization decide on the most effective social action strategies and tactics.

  • Petition for laws that require posting these resources in every government office and institution across the nation by either writing to elected officials or visiting their offices in person.

  • Work together with a local advocacy group and use the provided planning and action tools to develop an equity impact statement for a policy proposal that could be presented to a legislative body of congress.

  • This is an article from The Opportunity Agenda that provides ten different strategies to assist an individual in communicating with various audiences regarding racial justice. The advice given, with examples that come from research and experience, is intended to help persuade an audience into action. The Opportunity Agenda is an organization that provides communication and collaboration support to the social justice community. Their website has a plethora of resources, reports, toolkits and training sources to take advantage of.

  • This is an excellent source that contains over 3000 resources for individual knowledge or for anyone fighting to promote racial justice. Some resource examples are education in racism fundamentals, tools for planning and action, tools for research gathering and analysis, and links to outside curriculum and learning modules. The Racial Equity Tools organization combines resources from various organizations and groups to provide free access to users promoting racial justice at any level. They welcome feedback and invite the submission of new resources to the site.
