Genesis is our SIS (Student Info System)

Your main Hub for student records, grades, attendance

This has been our SIS forever. Maybe we’re switching soon? (OnCourse)

How you use this program depends on your building and grade level.

Look for it on our “Staff Resources” page along with many other important Technology Links.

Genesis is a bit old fashioned and clunky, but it works (most of the time!).

Don’t confuse the SIS with “School Fi” which is the employee portal.

Even after 20+ years using Genesis, whenever I watch another teacher using it, they click on things and use things I’ve never seen before!

Student Data

Any info you need about a student is probably here.

Note: You get more info from the “Student Data” tab, compared to if you click on a kid’s name from another screen! Also, some info is only from other tabs. Why? I don’t know!!

Seating Charts

Open the class from the list,

Then find “Seating Chart” tab on the bottom.

Setting up your Seating Charts

Click on “Change Seating” to move students around.

**Don’t forget to click “Save Seating Chart”** or else your changes will NOT be saved!

Attendance from Seating Chart

I recommend using the seating chart for attendance, not the “Attendance” tab.

I can not make a screenshot because the class doesn’t meet today.

Student Data tab: Conferences

Admin usually asks that we always add a “conference” entry when you take an action with a student.

  • Called parent- put it in conferences
  • Met with the student about their grade, put it in conferences
  • Talked to student about behavior issue, put it in conferences.
  • The more that goes into conferences, the better the picture everyone has about the student.

Behavior “write up”

Check with HHS, but at HMS the way we “write a student up” is with Genesis.

  • Note: not from “Student Data” tab (for some reason).
  • Find the student in your class roster (Gradebook Tab)
  • Create the incident under “Discipline”.

Grading Assignments:

Google Classroom Note: It’s possible to link your classes with your Google Classroom classes. This can make moving grades from Google Classroom into Genesis very easy. Stay tuned for more on this in the near future.

Company (Genesis).

This is where you will do

things related to your

employment.

You might need to sign your contract since it they were just released. Most other entries are for the end of the year or after your observations.

Your supervisor will work with you on things that need to be done in here.
