First graders are encouraged to explore and express themselves through their artistic work. Learners are going to embrace every opportunity to pursue their own ideas.

They will understand the benefits of concentration, perseverance and collaboration, as well as developing the motor skills that are generally associated with producing art. The enjoyable and collaborative nature of art and design will also provide them with many opportunities for social development.

This year we will travel around the world making different art projects inspired by each country as we learn different art techniques.

  • Contrast different texture and patterns.
  • Compose a landscape based on a photograph applying space technique.
  • Create artworks that evoke a specific (intended or unintended) emotion
  • Apply handmade procedures practicing cutting, pasting and printmaking
  • Differentiate types of lines to and create an abstract art inspired in different artists. (Kandinsky, Mondrian & Laurel Burch)
  • Identify and compare different types of lines following directions by their teacher.
  • Recognize color classification focusing on warm and cool colors.
  • Observed and create a landscape using curved lines and organic shapes.
