What is it?

Demon’s Mirror is a unique fusion of roguelike deck-building and chain-3 mechanics. In battle, you spend your action points playing cards or creating chains of tiles to attack, defend, gather resources, or decrease your enemy’s power. Master the unique attributes of the three playable characters, uncover potent synergies between the cards and tile grid, and construct the ultimate deck to fight your way out of this monstrous reality!

On your dangerous quest through the three nightmare realms of the Demon’s Mirror, you gather new cards and trinkets, honing your deck’s strength with each new item. With more than 200 cards to collect and a new world generated on every playthrough, Demon’s Mirror offers near-endless replayability.

The Story

Ignoring the warnings of your elders, you ventured into the forest near your home and gazed upon the Demon’s Mirror. Inside the glass, you saw the reflection of a strange creature. The figure reached out toward you. Before you could run, it pulled you into its dark realm.

Stepping from the glass into a dark forest, you found no sign of the creature or the Demon’s Mirror. You were trapped in this nightmare reality.

Winding ahead of you was a path. Somehow, you knew it lead to a castle and the way home. So long as you become strong enough to face what waits at the path’s end.

As you take your first step forward, you remember you’ve done this before. Possibly thousands of times. This time, it will be different. It has to be. If you’re ever to escape.

The Team

Demon’s Mirror is developed by Be-Rad Entertainment. The studio was founded by Seattle-based solo developer Brad Johnson in 2010 and is behind notable indie games, such as Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack!, WarGames: WOPR, and Lame Castle. The team recently expanded to include a new Art Director and Designer, Blob, and worked with Wilmer Sound on the game’s audio design.

Johnson has made a career combining the unexpected, whether turning a first-person shooter series into an endless runner or recreating a movie about war simulation and hacking as a match-3 puzzle game. Demon’s Mirror fusion of roguelike deck-building and chain-3 mechanics is another step in that journey.

Features

Shape Your Hero

Over the course of each playthrough, you shape a unique character build with the cards you earn in combat. With more than 200 cards to discover, no two runs are ever the same.

Choose the cards you add to your deck wisely; for each addition has the potential to create clever synergies and punishing combos with which to defeat your enemies

Fusion of Genre

Demon’s Mirror is a unique fusion of deck-building and chain-3 mechanics. You can battle enemies with cards from your hand and by creating chains of tiles on the grid, with both drawing from the same limited pool of action points available each turn.

The added complexity of these combined systems provides a fresh challenge to traditional deck-building.

Roguelike Adventure

You are trapped in the Demon’s Mirror, a nightmarish roguelike world where not even death will set you free. For any hope of escape, you must battle through dark forests and dank caves to face the final boss in their castle.

If you die on your quest, you start your journey from the beginning in a newly generated world filled with unique enemy encounters, items, and randomly dropped cards.

Axo

An engineer and an archer, Axo can create huge chains that can apply Shock to enemies, which will deal damage anytime you chain tiles.

Axo can use a unique Conductor Tile that reduces the casting cost of any chain it's included in.

Try a tinkerer build focusing on cards that help you build vast tile chains on the grid, or play more aggressively by picking cards for Axo’s bow.

Wulf

A bruiser using raw power, Wulf unleashes massive damage onto his enemies.

Wulf’s Broken Momento trinket means each turn your first chain costs no action points.

Try collecting cards that buff Wulf’s strength, making each attack hit harder. Alternatively, build a deck focusing on zeal cards, which increase the value of the tiles you chain together.

Draga

A powerful mage, Draga can string together skill cards to create devastating combos.

Draga’s Oracle Pendant trinket reduces the cost of cards in your hand every time you complete a chain. This item is the key to creating huge combos.

Try a build that focuses on influence. This subtle stat is a kind of damage that completely ignores armour.

Can you master the three protagonists of Demon’s Mirror?

Tips from the Devs

There are many ways to use your small pool of action points. You can choose to use your points to chain tiles or play cards in any order.

While you discard your hand at the end of each turn, the tile grid stays the same. Sometimes it pays to set up a chain and leave it to be completed on the next turn.

You don’t regain lost health at the end of a battle. Playing cautiously and choosing to defend yourself instead of attacking an enemy can often keep you alive longer.

Treat every run as an opportunity to try something new. Each hero has more than 70 cards in their arsenal, so experiment with your build and see what is possible.
